Sorry I havent posted in a while, I've been so busy with Zebedee and Coco, it's almost like having a newborn baby in the house!!

Anyway, all was going well, except..

Since bringing Coco home I've noticed she has a really pungent smell and seems to be secreting a smelly clear/brownish discharge ALL THE TIME. Initially I thought I was imagining it but today I came home from work and my OH was complaining that within 5 mins of him returning Coco had fallen asleep on him but then left little smelly patches over his shirt. It really stinks - she's on a dry food only diet and I dont know what else to do. My sister came round the other day and had the same complaint, no-one could work out where the smell was from until I realised later on. It's awful because unlike with Zebedee, I'm resisting from holding her much because the smell really is that strong and off putting. I can see her playing up, probably because she wants the attention, but then she'll leave trails of the discharge over me - my clothes dont last 5 mins without being thrown into the wash at the moment. Has anyone else ever experienced this?

Yes this does sound familiar....Casper does it on and off all the time. I took him to the vets and they said (sorry this is gross) that its nothing to worry about but his anal glands fill up quicker than normal and need emptying. They offered to show me but I said no thanks, I'll let you do it.... it involves squeezing them, its truly disgusting.

It happens probably every month or so with Casper, they do empty themselves automatically and gradually if you do nothing (as you have found...) It is absolutely foul-smelling, you have my sympathy! Take her to the vets to be checked out, and hopefully they will empty them for you as well - until next time!

Urgh and now something else makes sense...i've noticed a few times when i hold her, a little squeeze, there'll be a squirt and out comes some more foul smelling stuff!!!!!

I'm going to take her to the vet tomorrow, i've been reading up online and Vix it all pretty much sounds like what you've just said. I'm surprised the breeder didnt tell me, it would have been nice to be prepared!!! When I take her to the vet will it be pretty much sorted for now? Iim just finding it really difficult because she's such an affectionate cat and insists on sticking her bum in my face ALL the time!

To be fair, Casper didn't start having this problem until he was around 6 months old, maybe the breeder didn't know/notice?

I think its fairly rare, when Casper started having it I asked around and nobody knew what I was on about...

Casper is the same, wants to stick his backside in your face all the time. I know that's affectionate but seriously....no thanks!

Forgot to answer your question - yes it should sort it for a bit, but how long depends on how quickly she backs up...

How did you get on at the vets hun?

Oh dear - I hope the vets can help Coco - it sounds pretty grim

Luckily this Leicester house hasn't been affected

Well you're lucky at least the smelly-bum is temporary - casper has it for life
