I really have several questions. And I'm sorry so much of my contact with y'all has been about health issues. I really thought I would be frequenting the more fun forums after my new kitty came home.
I want to know if my expectations were too high. I'll start by saying we have no other animals and we keep Molly inside 24/7. She is a 2.5 year old queen who had genetic reproductive issues that caused the loss of her first litter and resulted in spaying - thus she came to be a pet. I knew that some issues could happen while adjusting to a new home, but my experience so far has been highly stressful for myself and Molly. First, she has had diarrhea(giardia) since the first day, which we are still treating her for(it's been 3.5 weeks now). Her poor bum is getting irritated from all her cleaning. Now I think she has ear mites. The vet had stated(2 days after bringing her home) that the wax was indicitive of mites, but the whole diarrhea thing has taken precedence. I don't know how I'm ever going to befriend Molly if I have to mess with her ears now too, but she's clawing her ears more now. Do you think these kind of health issues are out of the ordinary, or do you think I expected too much from a purebred cat? I've had three cats long ago from the shelter that never had issues like this. I had really intended on getting another cat as well, and these issues are discouraging me, and my husband will never agree to another kitty if this is what we can expect. The money isn't an issue as much as the loss of bonding time to doctoring. Though Molly will come to me sometimes as long as I'm not holding a syringe.
Was I unrealistic?
I did tour the facility and The breeder and the facility seem wonderfully loving.

As she is an older cat it takes time for them to settle in, whereas with a kitten they adjust faster to new surroundings so don't expect too much of her for a while. Take it slowly, play with her and give treats for good behaviour etc and eventually with lots of attention and fuss she will come round.

With the health issues they do sound dubious. How is the treatment for bad stomach going? A bland diet is needed; chicken or fish, which should help. This could have been triggered by moving home. I'm not sure what to sugguest about the ear mites except try and get her ears cleaned asap and any treatment for the removal of the mites.

Once the health probs are sorted she will most likely settle down properly and you will have a lovely cat. Don't be put off by this experience, it's a learning curve and unfortunately you have a cat that isn't as healthy as she should be. Obviously from a breeder who has a code of ethics you have been let down as the standard of health in your cat is very low. The majority of breeders have a very high standard.

With regards to getting another cat, I would wait until you have sorted out Molly's problems and bonded with her.

Thank you for the re-assurance tigerfeet. I guess that's really what I need. Molly really is a wonderful kitty personality-wise. I took another sample to the vet today so we'll see what it turns up. I can't give her treats till we figure out what's making her issue continue - just dry food with forti-flora. In spite of everything she IS forming a good bond with myself and my husband. She even let me hold her for a moment belly-up yesterday(I'm prepping for a nail clip). I did have to laugh when hubby encouraged her to play chase the footies in bed, then was surprised because it hurt when she attacked his feet. LOL She holds back, but it still hurts.
I'll make the appointment to take care of her ears when the vet calls about her test results. And it will probably be months at least before we are ready to make room for another kitty.
