I've brought this up at the cats' twice yearly vet visits, and I intend to again when their shots are due in January. When my two cats were kittens, they both ate canned food. When they were about nine months old, Hills changed the formula of the food they were eating, and Enoch stopped eating canned food altogether.
He doesn't have any health issues, though the vet and I are carefully watching his weight. There appears nothing physical preventing him from eating meat. But he's giving me all sorts of clues he wants something that I can't figure out. He eats only one flavor of one brand of dry cat food, and hasn't shown any interest in anything else I've ever set in front of him. He doesn't like any form of treat, be it cat milk or the various packaged dry, moist, or dehydrated varieties. He won't eat real chicken, turkey, ham, or roast beef. I've tried (though, thankfully, he's rejected) hot dogs, hamburger, pork chops, ribs, and various steak varieties. Neither cat likes fish. About the only thing I haven't tried is a live mouse (which I won't).
Bear still eats canned food, and Enoch shows interest, but can't bring himself to eat it even when Bear isn't around to hog the dish. I will occasionally find Enoch nibbling at the shriveled remains of Bear's food, and god help any flying thing that gets inside the apartment. All the instincts seem to be there, they just don't seem to be kicking in.
I don't intend to force Enoch to eat anything he either isn't required to eat or doesn't want, but are there any other types of meat/food I might try?
