Baby T-shirts for cats?

Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have ever put a baby T-shirt or similar on a cat to protect a neck/back wound? My cat Binky had surgery yesterday to have a lump removed from the scruff between his shoulders. The vet said if he licks it, he should wear an e-collar, but I'm worried that it might come to sit right on the upper edge of his incision, plus he's trying to scratch it with his hind legs and a collar would not prevent that at all. Any ideas how to keep his claws off his sutures? I've read about using a baby T-shirt - does this work and what size might be right for a cat? (He's a big 16 lbs male, a bit on the chubby side).

hiya,

i'm not sure that would work as he'd be able to push it up while scratching with his back legs & get to the wound underneath

i've heard of people using those baby-grows (the ones with poppers) on cats with the poppers on the back rather than the tummy, to stop babies getting to teats in certain situations. i wonder if that would maybe be more secure? all you would need is to cut a little hole for the tail but you would need to watch & remove it when he needed the loo. might be a bit awkward...sorry i wasn't much help was i?! :lol:

Yup, I'm so happy we don't have to deal with cancer! He was really lucky. Now all he has to do is heal up and get on with life. He's not too thrilled about his new outfit. Mikesch is definitely having more fun with this than Binky... :mrgreen:

Mikesch is doing his best to help with nursing his buddy Binky back to health.

Not that Binky needs much nursing... he seems to be doing just fine! I bought him pet stairs to make it easier to get up on the bed and he refuses to use them and jumps instead. Oh well! These pictures were taking before I got Binky his vest, so I had to keep an eye on them that neither started bothering the incision site and keep them separate when I couldn't supervise what they were doing. They hated that! Now with his vest on, I can let them roam the house together and not worry too much. He's still not thrilled about it, but getting used to it, hehe.

"Mommy, can we take it off now? Purrty purrlease?"
