we recently lost our 9 month old boy bengal to FIP. we were and still are devastated. the thing is our 9 month old abyssinian needs a new friend as they were indoor cats and is going stir crazy on her own, as abys do. Do u think it would be safe getting a new bengal kitten despite our current cat having been exposed to the coronavirus?
i know most cats have exposure to the virus and we were very unlucky to suffer from FIP and lightning doesn't strike twice? but would we be safer with an adult then with a developed immune system? Adult bengals are really hard to find i feel.
my boyfriend is desperate for another bengal and we would really like another bengal kitten to enjoy and give a loving home. we just think they are beautiful and there's no beating their temperament...

I don't have any advice I just wanted to say I am sorry you lost your little boy to FIP. We lost our 4 yr old girl Minnie to very sudden kidney failure in January (she went from healthy to gone in 3 days) and it totally broke our hearts. We've just this week taken a bengal kitten into our home to provide much needed company for Minnie's brother Casper.

Although Izzy (our new kitten) doesn't in any way replace Minnie, she is just as loved and it has helped us all I think.

Good luck in your search, I have seen quite a few links for adult bengals. Have you tried the bengal rescue site?

She says not to get another cat unless the remaining cat has been tested for Corna Virus and has a titre of 0

Also the virus can remain alive in the house for 7 weeks!!!

Lightning does strike twice and adult cats get FIP too.

You would put your Aby at risk by the initail stress and the new cat also if you went ahead without testing and your Aby did have the Corna Virus (which she most likely does if she had contact with your infected cat)!

So to answer your question NO dont get another cat unless you know your Aby has a Corna Virus titre of 0.

Young kittens tend to throw off the corona virus fairly quickly once they are a single cat. In the environment the cv is very fragile and most household cleaners will kill it off. Hoovering is your best friend to collect all those contaminated dust particles.

Dont stress your kitty by keep taking her to the vets to get her blood taken for titre testing. Way a good six months, then get her tested. If she still has a titre at that time wait another six months then test her again. Keep her gi tract healthy, give her probiotics daily in her food. The important thing is no stressors, such as neutering, vet visits, cattery stop overs, etc. A nice, calm home.

When she is back to a 0 titre (Glasgow testing), then consider a new pal for her but make sure the new kitty is corona negative.
