Hi All,

Am new to the forum and any advice on this would really help.

On Thursday our 8 month old Charcoal Black female bengal was vomiting orange / yellow liquid, presumed it was bile. She then all of a sudden stopped eating, we initially thought she had eaten or swallowed something that has disagreed with her. We took her to the vet and the vet kept her in for the day. They gave her a vomitiming injection to see if she could bring up anything that may be lodged. after a few hours there was nosickness and she was starting to get distressed so we collected her. Got home and she ate without any problems and the same on Friday. Saturday she picked at her food but on Sunday she didn't touch a thing. She was brought up with raw food (Purrform) which she has always loved so we have kept her on it and we then top up with biscuits.

Yesterday we tried everything to get her to eat, boiled chicken and rice, tuna and her normal raw food. She wasn't having any of it, she has been drinking water so she as yet isn't dehydrated. Took her to the vets again today and they have given her some antibotics and another vomiting injection. The vet wants her back tomorrow to check on her.

We are really worried about her and don't know what to do. We have had cats before but not a bengal, i thought it was partly the heat we have in London atm, coupled with her coming into season last week. She is still walking around the house and when taken into the garden she is jumping off everything. We are trying to process of eliminate everything without complicating this. My wife had some flowers 2 weeks ago, which had lilly's in them i picked out the pollen sacks when i saw them but am unsure if this would stop her eating. Shedoes tend to eat things like flies and spiders and has been know to pick up kids toys (Lego).

Any help would be really appreciated. A worried daddy to a beautiful baby.

Welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear your baby isn't feeling well. Not sure where to begin.

As you know, lilies are poisonous to cats, so I would not have them PERIOD. Eating poisonous insects can have the same symptoms.

I'm glad your vet is dealing with this, however, I hope the vet has told you that this kitty MUST eat. Even syringing food into the cat is better than not letting the cat eat. Ask your vet about Fatty Liver Disease and how long you cat can do without eating before damage is done and irreversible.

Has the vet done any type of test or x-ray of the digestive system? You say the kitten likes Legos and possibly one is obstructing somewhere. I realize vet offices stress out cats, but many times it is necessary to have a cat on an IV and receive medical treatment throughout the day. I would also think it would be advisable to flush out the cat's system to get rid of any possible poison that may be absorbed.

I know it is difficult to diagnose most cat illnesses without testing. The cats cannot convey to us what is wrong, so vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, being lethargic -- those are all signs that something is wrong.

The other issue is SPAY YOUR CAT. I doubt this has anything to do with this, but it can be exasperating the situation.

I would try a different type of raw food. There could have been some type of contamination with the food you were feeding her. It happens and many cats have died from eating bad food.

I know you are worried, but your vet is the best source of information. Your little gal needs to get better.

Please keep us informed.

Ok, first off, let's clear one thing up here...

http://www.pethealthnetwork.com/cat-hea ... oning-cats

If you notice that someone has brought some lilies into your house, you have my permission to panic. Get rid of them right away! Then educate the person who brought them in. They are not just poisonous to cats, they are deadly poisonous to cats (depending on the variety)!

Also, I'm a little surprised that you'd be letting your cat outside under these circumstances? Isn't it possible that this was caused by something she ran into while outside?

Anyway, what has your vet said to you? It sounds like from his actions he is suspecting your kitty might have ingested some sort of foreign object? Either that or some kind of poisoning? Did you get x-rays to verify this? Definitely ask a lot of questions of the vet, and if you don't feel like there is enough urgency there, or your vet isn't taking this seriously enough, get a second opinion.

Let us know how this goes, I'm worried about your kitty.

Hi All,

Thaks for the responses.

Cleo went back to the vets yesterday and she was given a second antibiotic injection, no vomiting since Monday's vet visit. She has 100% perked up and seems like her normal self climbing, running and playing with the kids. However she is still not eating on her own, yesterday we started force feeding her the raw food and she hasn't spat any of it out or been sick.

We fed her again this morning and in total she has had 3/4 of a sachet since yesterday. Took her to the vets again and they are going to x-ray her to see if anything is lodged or stuck. Should know more later hopefully all is well.

Thanks

At least you and your vet are on top of this. Force feeding (or syringing) food is helpful at least to keep the kitty's life functions going, but it won't help in the long run. An x-ray will determine if something is lodged in the digestive tract. Hopefully, that is not the case. It's great your baby is feeling better, but getting them back to a good eating schedule is really the important thing here. Unfortunately, these issues can take time to resolve, but I hope she is back to 100% really soon.

Now .... please go through her home with a fine-toothed comb and see what dangers may lurk for her. Plants, toys, wires -- whatever a kitten can get into, they will. You don't want this happening again.

Please continue to keep us updated. We want to know when she is eating normally again.

Update on Cleo

She is back to normal now and eating, drinking and playing as any kitten should.

Basically the x-ray showed up that she had a blocked up bowel so the poor thing just couldn't go to toilet. She was also too full up to physically eat, feel so sorry for her as we were force feeding her.

All is back to normal and we are so pleased.

Thanks for all the friendly advice and general caring.

That is great news ... there is usually an issue that is causing this and one has to figure out what it is. A good laxative probably helped in this regard. Great that Cleo is back to normal.
