Hello!

Tomorrow we are getting our 6 mo female Bengal Ruby spayed. We already have Winston (1 yo neutered male) and they both adore each other. They eat, sleep, play, groom and even go to the toilet together. They have never spent more than 2 hours away from each other since we brought Ruby home nearly 4 months ago so I am worried how they will both be when we bring Ruby home. Has anyone any experience in this? Should we keep them separated so that Winston doesn’t start jumping on Ruby and to play with her (they can play quite rough)! I want to keep them both as calm and as stress-free as possible so any advice will be much appreciated :)

I personally don't have experience with this as I have 2 boys and Max was only gone a few hours when he got neutered, but from other posts I have read on here you might need to keep them separated and do a reintroduction process.
Ruby is going to smell different from being at the vets which might make Winston wary, plus Ruby will need a bit of recovery time I'm assuming.
Don't be surprised if Winston frets a bit and gets vocal looking for her while she's gone too. He'll be wondering where is best buddy has gotten to.
I'm sure some of the other guys on here will have better advice for you when they get on line.

I never had a problem with my 2, when Pearl my girl went to be spayed I found when she came home my boy gave her a wide birth because he didn't like the way she smelt after being at the vets.
He didn't play too rough with her luckily so all was fine and she didn't even seem to notice that she had anything done.

Ruby is going to smell funny when she returns. Their fur gathers a lot of new smells at the vet. Know that you cannot smell them, but another cat will, so what Clare says may be the case. Ruby will smell weird and Winston will leave her alone. That being said, I'm sure you vet has told you that Ruby needs to take it easy for several days. If she doesn't like the cone of shame, you can always put a onesie on her so she can't get to the stitches.

Ruby should recover rapidly and she and Winston will be back playing and grooming once more. Just don't be alarmed if there is some hissing when she returns.

Hello everyone,
Thank you all for your replies! Winston could tell there was something different with Ruby, but as soon as we brought her home he was all over her washing her like he’d missed her but also that she needed a good bath! He wasn’t aggressive or different with her, however he does like to play quite rough at times so we’ve had to split them up a few times just in case because of her stitches! Ruby also has a special surgical cat suit that she wears and we are currently keeping them separated at night and when we’re not there; it’s heartbreaking as they miss each other so much but it’s not worth a trip back to the vets to get Ruby’s stitches re-done. Not long now until she’s healed though (10 days). Thanks again.
