As it would be unlikely to be due to a cut nerve with the neutering op, it is most likely pressure damage on the nerve.

Similar to when you fall asleep heavily on your arm and it is numb when you wake up, this is a similar situation only the nerve has been damaged and takes longer to heal. Nerve damage can take up to 6 months or even longer depending on the degree of injury.

When any animal is operated on the potential for this sort of thing happening is always there as the animal is unconscious and cannot complain if the leg is yanked or the leg is lain upon awkwardly. Also cats can get themselves very stressed in vet cages and being handled by strangers so may have injured himself in the struggle.
I would get him x-rayed to make sure there is no tissue or bony damage and if not perhaps a neurology opinion.

I think a second opinion may be good, as the implication was that Bowzer was damaged at the vets and the first vet will not want to elucidate anything that will implicate them any further, but I do not think that a Bengal is sufficiently different in this case from any other cat in order for you to seek out a Bengal specific vet.

Thank you! We've been gently exercising him, taking him on little walks up and down our hallway, and he seems to be doing a little bit better the more he uses it! We're just keeping our fingers crossed and doing everything we can to make our baby boy perfect again! Thank you!

Hello all,

I know this post has been made years ago but I hope maybe mamabengal or someone else could have good answers for me!! My bengal kitten just got back from the vet for a simple neutering surgery and its the same situation as mamabengal! Exactly the same!! My kitten is limping from his back right leg! The vet are now talking about 'they injected one of the medication in a nerv during my kittin neutering.' His surgery was last tuesday so its now has been 6 days. My kitten play just like a normal bengal, he play a lot but he is limping from his back right leg. He dont looks like he hurts at all but Iam very worry for him and Iam wondering if he will ever be back to normal?!

Thank you all for you help!

I'm in CT also. There is a cat vet in South Windsor right off of the highway. Just mentioning it. You may want a second opinion but sounds like something pulled or strained???? Especially if it is getting better. Good luck.

I see that these are posts from a few years ago but I am writing with a concern about my kitten who is having the very same problem! He is 4 months old and we just brought him home a few hours ago from the vet after he was neutered today. I had such a bad feeling this morning before we took him that he wouldn't be his same wonderful self after the surgery. I should have gone with my gut and cancelled the operation! My husband brought him home and after meowing throughout the entire ride home, he seemed fairly normal when he got out of the cage. But he attempted to jump onto my husband's lap and instead fell onto the floor awkwardly. He has been limping since - not putting pressure on his right hind leg. He has a sad, glassy look in his eyes and my heart is breaking! Reading through many posts here and elsewhere on the internet, I think it must be nerve damage. We called the vet a couple of times after he came home and they of course say that he was fine when he was there and that he must have pulled a muscle at home. I hope that someone whose cat experienced this in the past can tell me what this means and how long it will last. I don't think the vet will be helpful - they caused the problem but will deny it, I'm sure since they won't want to admit any wrongdoing. I really need some advice.

You need to take him to the vet, if not the surgery where he was neutered, another vet. He needs attention now.

I find it ironic that these posters did not come back and update on the solution and how the kitty is now. Did the leg improve with or without medication or physical therapy. I have only one experience with a neuter (the rest have been spays) and there were no problems. However, since this seems to be a somewhat common thing, it's probably due to the way the vet did the neuter (maybe all were trained at the same vet school?). There are vets who specialize in neurology and you might want to visit one. They could perform tests that would show how the nerve is functioning and recommend treatment. That's what I would do if this were my cat.
