Just to let everyone know, bruno's tests from Glasgow have strongly indicated FIP, which is as close as veterinary science can get. I talked at length with the vet and given what would be involved with the prednisalone and interferon and the antibiotic cover, we have decided not to treat him and keep him comfortable until the time comes where he can't eat or drink or looks like he's not coping.
He gets so stressed when we even try to worm him let alone 3 medicines a day as well as injections every 2nd day and then weekly. We feel his quality of life will be awful if we keep him going like that. We don't want to medicate his food just incase he gets suspicious and stops eating, which he is clever enough to do, wee bright spark that he is. right now he's at home, snuggling into his bed and keeping our abyssinian coco company and he's happy. The vet agrees.
He is only 7 months old and we are devastated, but we have been very unlucky and short of being careful on the bverge of paranoia there is nothing we could have done to prevent this. We just hope Coco makes it past her kitten months into adulthood without any problems cos she is 7months also and i hope she's not too lonely. We are also not sure if we could let the breeder know as Bruno was v sick within days of geting him in december, and that would fit with a coronavirus infection. Not that it would make much difference as it is impossible to know which cats will develop FIP regardless of coronavirus infection.
My partner is so in love with bengals he wants another one but i am not sure we can go through this again, especially since breeding makes them vulnerable. Regardless, we need to allow some time for the dust to settle.
thanks for all your support
