Poor Jagger's big day was Friday. Only two teeth extracted and they were the smallest molars in his lower jaw so don't think he'll miss them too much. Certainly isn't affecting him so far.

He was pretty freaked out by the whole experience. He didn't utter a sound when I went to pick him up, he was wrapped in his blanket and poked his head out but that was it until he got home. He emerged from his carrier growling and very unhappy. But I think he's like me in that he is really miserable when hungry! He brightened up once he'd eaten.

He's not allowed his favourite food for a few days as its a pate type food and could get stuck in his extraction sites so that's wearing thin with him right now.

We have toothpaste which Hendrix thinks is lovely but Jagger turned his nose up at (of course). The one I have at the moment is poultry flavour so I'm going to try him with the fish next. In the meantime I'm wiping it on his leg to force him to lick it off to see if I can get him used to it. And at least he's getting some in his mouth. It's going to be a slow process building up to teeth cleaning but I don't want him to go through that again.

Whilst he was perfectly behaved, he's such an anxious boy it's taking him time to get over the experience. He spent nearly all day yesterday hidden in his sleeping bag. He made a lot of fans at the vets, all the nurses were enthusing about his beautiful soft fur, his eyes and what a beautiful cat he is. But they also recognised he's very anxious as most bengals are extremely vocal (like Hendrix!) and trying to catch them through the cages as they walk by. Poor Jags was mute all day.

He's doing well though and seems to be much more relaxed today. He has a post op check up on the 9th December so he'll be staying on zylkene until he's through that as it does seem to help him.

Poor soul. As a human with a fear of dentists I sympathise... Hope he recovers speedily and may the tooth fairy bring some goodies

Aww bless him, I'm sure he will soon be back to his normal self.
Mine have the fish flavoured toothpaste, they don't seem to mind it, I do have a hard job cleaning Magic's teeth as I only started aged 4 whereas Pearl doesn't mind because I've always done it.
Only problem I have is Pearl is so small it's hard to clean hers but we manage just about.

Happy things went well with Jagger and his dental work. I was quite apprehensive when Raiden had his teeth cleaned. I truly wanted to wait there to make sure things went okay, but I would have waited hours since they wait for the anesthesia to completely wear off. Raiden was fine and famished! I'd never in all my years of owning a cat even considered a dental cleaning. But because Raiden has heart issues and gum disease can cause issues with that ... I wanted to make sure he is kept as healthy as he can be. I know Jagger will be back to his old self in no time.

Thanks all.

He seems to be doing okay now - he was much happier yesterday. I went out into the garden to clear leaves and do some general tidying up and getting the garden set for winter, and he was tearing around like a maniac, attacking the rake and charging up and down trees. It was lovely to see him more like his usual pesky self! He totally wore himself out!!

I'll give him his usual food tomorrow as a few days has passed now and his gums should be healing nicely. That will really cheer him up!!

Hi Clare,

Glad to hear the boys are doing well, and poor Jagger has come through minus a couple of teeth only. I know how frightening any 'surgery' can be for Mum! I hope Hendrix is being nice to him, and giving him some brotherly love.

Lots of hugs

Hi Jo

Thank you, it is always very worrying but fortunately they sent me a text at 11am to confirm he was out of surgery and recovering well. So I could relax until I was able to pick him up. He is actually now accepting the toothpaste so I will be moving on to seeing how he gets on with a toothbrush soon

I hope you and Merlin are doing well too!

Hugs and purrs
xxxx

Hi Claire,

That's great news glad they haven't fallen out too much this time!

Merlin is very well, thanks, considering he is 17 in January! It must be the King Prawn 'supplements' he has...
He has now fully recovered from a very bad fight he had back in November - and now giving me Hell because I have locked the cat flap, and keep him in! He had a puncture on his elbow, which despite antibiotics and cleaning did develop a very small abscess. The vet gave me another shot to give him at home, when it burst, and that seems to have done the trick! The hair has all grown back and the leg seems undamaged in mobility, etc, thankfully.

He's now decided that I am simply there to be his warm cushion and servant, and literally clicks his fingers for food or tummy rubs while stretched out along me (even when the heating is on!)

I will work out one day what I did that was so bad to deserve this life of servitude..Lol!

Hope you and the boys have a fabbo Xmas!
Hugs n Snarfs from us xx xx
