Broken whiskers

My cats have lost whiskers too they grow back like hair/fur. I would think with the rough housing that it is part of the norm. It doesn't hurt unless they are ripped out like plucking your eyebrows. I wouldn't worry too much.

They may be biting them off each other too in the rumble. They are pretty coarse... so if bent inhalf hard enought they would have the tendancy to break. If there was a medical problem they wouldn't be breaking. Whiskers are made a keratin like human hair... when we have a medical problem our hair falls out at the root it doesn't break unless we fry the heck out of it with all kinds of chemical products and bleach :wink:

. I wouldn't worry. It seems to be a symptom of roughhousing.

Hi!

It may be that they deliberately break each others whiskers. Many cat-mums do that with their kittens, to keep them "close", and make them not to "go far away". I had a neutered boy, who got a little "girlfriend", and he was breaking them when grooming her! So I think its about "taking care" of each other!
