I have a kitten I picked up in the beginning of April. She was around 12 weeks old. When I got her home she had runny, bloody stool, so I called the breeder to let her know. She said this wasn't happening when she had her, and she might just be stressed. It didn't go away, so I took her to the vet a couple days later, and she has been going every week since.

Nothing has come back in her stool samples. She also had blood samples taken and those appear normal too. She has been dewormed and is up to date on all her shots. The breeder said she was feeding her Eagle Holistic Select, so that's what we've been feeding her. We recently changed that to a brand of IAMs to see if that helps. She has been prescribed a few different meds, the recent one seemed like it might have been helping, but last night there was a lot of blood. Does anyone have any experience with this? Everything seems normal other than this. She's putting on weight and is very playful. Any advice?

Sounds like an inflammation of the colon. This is what I would do:-

Put her onto professional pro-biotics Protexin Professional and keep her on it permanently for the time being.

1. Three days Panancur then repeat after three weeks (for giardia). Does not always show up in fecals.

2. Then if the bloody stool is still present get your vet to give her a course of flagyl. This is very bitter tasting so get the pills not the liquid and disguise it in some food. This will calm the intestines down.

3. Get her onto Royal Canin Prescription Diet Dry GI32. This is for runny bums, IBS, malabsortion, etc.

If all this fails it may be she will have to go on a course of steroids or go through food elimination trials if it turns out to be a food insensitivity. Also give her bottled water, not tap.

I had a similiar problem with my guy. My vet, who actually specializes in Bengals, had me give him 1/4 teaspoon of metamucil fiber (plain flavored powder) twice a day. It has totally cleared up the problem.

Saffi and Kit!

We have tried cooked chicken, ordinary dry food, good quality tins and pouches etc but since we got her she hasn't had normal stools.

We're hoping this Royal canin suits her but if not then we'll get her tested for wheat or gluten allergies and anything else it could be. She has even had medicines from the vets before and they didn't help so we'll keep on trying!
