Hi there - I'm new to the forum (just posted my introduction!) and I have a question about my young Bengal's gums. He is about 5 months old currently.

I recently took Sjin to the vet for a checkup/follow-up for some shots. She examined his mouth and noticed two white bumps, one on either side of his upper gums (see link for photo). The gums are slightly reddened. She said that it might just be irritation from getting his adult teeth in or it could be a sign of early stomatitis, but that it's mainly a waiting game now to see if it gets any worse. He eats well and the bumps don't seem to hurt him (he does yell at me any time I pick him up to check, but he yells any time he's picked up anyway!).

Of course, I'm freaked out now that I'm sitting around, twiddling my thumbs with no idea if this could mean he'll lose all his teeth down the line or if there's something I can do. Have any of you seen bumps like this?

Magic had bumps like this when he was teething, they went away once he had his adult teeth.

Hopefully, this is nothing serious. You can probably drive yourself crazy if you google "white bumps cat gums" and read the answers as there could be several causes. Your BEST source of information is your vet. I do think most of us do not inspect our kitty's mouth the way a vet would. I look in Raiden's when he's yawning, but the vet checks his mouth at his annual checkup. It could very well be the adult teeth if you are seeing these in the exact same area on both sides of the mouth.

I'm hoping they're adult teeth too. I managed to feel the bumps and they seemed very firm, so hopefully it's just teeth poking out and the redness associated will subside as they grow. I didn't think about them being teeth, but it would make sense because the bumps appear whiter than they did at his checkup, so she may not have realized they were teeth coming in.

I'll definitely keep an eye on him and try not to worry myself sick about it! ;) Thank you both for your replies.

As long as these bumps do not seem to be causing him any discomfort, I would just keep a watchful eye on them. When babies get teeth, I believe this same thing happens. The gums get white where the tooth is trying to come in and there can also be redness around that area. I'm really hoping this is all it is.

It looks like his adult teeth coming in. The baby teeth just below those bumps should start to get loose in the next few days. You may or may not find them when they fall out, a lot of times they'll come out while the cat is eating and they swallow them.

I never found teeth or noticed any missing when my cats were kittens. I got them at 4 months old. I excused a lot of destructive behavior thinking they were teething.

I only found a couple of Diesel's teeth. They were so small we almost missed them. His gums were really red while he was getting his adult teeth. He had 1 back tooth that wasn't wanting to come out and the adult tooth was pushing on it. I noticed him pawing at his mouth and shaking his head and when I checked it the baby tooth was sticking out to the side but it was still connected. I wiggled it a few times and it finally came out.
