I have a 5 and half month Bengal boy. I have recently noticed that he has a bit of a scab on his nose. It is often a bit white (where I assume the scab is healing) and he can often be seen with black flakes coming off his nose. Has anybody ever experienced anything like this before?

I have tried to take a couple of pics but they are not too great.

It might just be a dry nose or something similarly harmless since your boy is so young, but I know of at least one older cat who had a scabby nose and frequently pulled the scabs off to the point of bleeding. In his case it turned out to be skin cancer (yikes!) so if it doesn't get any better, you might want to get it checked out by a vet to rule that out.

I think you can help by rubbing a bit of olive oil on his nose one a day. I've seen this a couple of times before and it does go away eventually

If he isn't sneezing and is well in himself I wouldn't worry too much.

it could be down to central heating drying his nose out. one of my girls had the same trouble with her nose each time she went to a show...it was always hot & stuffy in the show halls.

This is my first post. I have wonderful 5-month old brother and sister Bengal littermates (brown/black spotted tabby) who both have presented chronic scabby noses since age 4-months. My vet specialized in feline veterinary medicine and sees only felines in her clinic. She recommended lubricating their noses topically with Vaseline thrice daily. However, after four weeks of applications there was no improvement in either kitten. Yesterday, my vet performed a cytological test from skin scrapings from each kitten's nose. She found normal skin cells (no malignancy), no fungus, and normal (limited in number) dermal bacteria. She suspects the causation to be a viral infection similar to the herpes virus in humans. She prescribed a dietary supplement named VIRALYS (sold exclusively through veterinarians). The main active ingredient is L-Lysine. DOSAGE: Each 1.25 ml. (1/4 teaspoon) contains 250 mg of L-Lysine in a palatable base. The suggested dose for cats over 6 months of age is 1.25 ml. (1/4 teaspoon) given orally twice daily. The suggested dose for kittens under 6 months of age is 0.65 Ml. (1/8 teaspoon) given orally twice daily. ADMINISTRATION: VIRALYS is a highly palatable gel. Place a small amount on cat's nose to stimulate taste interest. Once initial interest has been established, gel may be administered from a syringe or teaspoon.

At the end of the 30-day treatment I will let you all know if it helps our little ones' scabby noses.

Indiana gets Scabby nose from time to time so I stick Vaseline on it which seems to fix it.

I think if you were still worried you should take your baby to a vet.

For all the dry weather or food explanations, we had a cat who had this too. She had cancer in her nose and ended up having her nose removed (she was about 10 years old at the time). Looked like an alien, but was fine after that. Lived to be 24 (my mum always claimed "that old witch is gonna outlive us all!").

Not meaning to make you worry - but if other attempts to fix it don't work, it is worth a trip to the vet. With her scabby nose, we'd clean it up and moisturise it and do all sorts of things - NOTHING worked and it was always returning. The scabs got bigger over time, too. She seemed a little sore if you touched it, too... A little more tender than the average cat nose.
