Has anyone here dealt with bladder inflammation in an older cat before and has some tips? My oldest just had a bad case, though it seems to be getting better now. He started straining and peeing blood in small drops all around the house. The vet did a blood and urine test (which was a challenge because he kept his bladder empty at all times so the vet had a problem getting a urine sample to analyze) and found 1) no stones or crystals, 2) no bacteria causing an infection, 3) blood in the urine (duh), and 4) his kidneys were stressed (as would be expected in the case of problems with urinating). So in summary it's not clear what caused it and what would be the best way to treat it. He's on antibiotics right now and the vet recommended maybe using special food but since they can't find any crystals to analyze, it's difficult to say which food would be best for him. (Food that helps with one type of crystals makes the other type worse.) I'm somewhat doubtful that either the antibiotics or changing the food would help (since it appears neither bacteria nor crystals are present). Does anyone have any tips or suggestions what might help?
