Our beautiful Bengal girl Zendaya is 8 months old, can anyone let me know ideally what her weight should be? She eats like a small horse which of course is normal I just would like to know if anyone out there has an idea of the ideal weight at that age ...

Every cat is different. There are only generalizations. Bengals should be long and lean. We've had people post their 9 month old bengal is 12 pounds. My bengal is going on 9 years old and just 12 pounds. Here's a chart showing the shape of cats -- that's probably more important than the actual weight.

Thank for you for your help, I have just weighed Zendaya and she is 5.95 pound, she is 8 months old. She just appears so small considering her food intake! she has a constant supply of kitten royal canin dry biscuits, loves tuna and mince but any kitten food like felix/whiskars she get very picky with. I worry she is a little on the small side & because I plan to breed from her & spent a small fortune! even though she's absolutely worth it! I suppose i'm just worried that she won't get to an ideal weight for breeding. I have a picture of her to post but not sure where to do this on the forum.

Thank you for your help! :-)

You can post pictures in the Gallery section of this forum and attach the photo by scrolling down to "upload attachment," then find the picture on your computer and click "add the file." It will upload the picture.

I just commented on your other post in the Breeding section! Female bengals are a lot smaller than males and it would seem to me that your girl is just a small kitty. I know you are planning to breed her. I'm going to suggest you take her to the vet for a checkup and to make sure everything is fine to breed her. If the vet thinks she i too small, they may recommend waiting until she grows more. You don't want a difficult birth for the litter.

It's great you want to take on the responsibility, but there is a LOT of responsibility -- weekly weighing of the kittens, taking them to the vet, vaccinations, altering. Lots of time and money ..... and most breeders barely break even on their kittens.

Many thanks, but all my posts are really to say that I most definitely will be waiting until Zendaya is a good size to breed from, i will not not go ahead at such a young age as of course she will struggle with birth etc.
Thankfully i'm a veterinary nurse so understand that she has lots of growing to do yet before breeding takes place...
I'm suppose i'm a little surprised how slowly she's growing as she came from a highly respected breeder and needed to rest assured that she will catch up, her parents are a good size so she has a good chance yet.
I'm not planning on gaining financially with this venture, I just absolutely adore the bengal

Hopefully she is not just a small cat. If mayhap she won't get much bigger, do you still intend to breed her if this is as big as she gets?
There is a real risk, as I am sure you are aware as a vet nurse, of pyometra if a queen is left entire without breeding her.

Of course not, I care too much for her to put her through that however she still has plenty of time to grow...and yes i understand all the ins and out of pyometra, thank you.
