Has the pain been decreasing over time? If so, that might suggest that it was just a muscle problem like a cramp or sprain. If it's getting worse, or if it's swollen/warmer than the surrounding areas, that suggests something more serious that needs to be checked out. Honestly, if it isn't too far I'd just suggest dropping by the vet for a quick once-over just to make sure that she's okay. And if it's muscular, they might be able to prescribe something to reduce the pain.

I'd say even if it is too far - as a member of the family I'd be seeking medical opinion and not taking the risk. You seem quite worried in your post - a vet can either assist with the problem or put your mind at ease if it is just a strained muscle. Worth it in any case.
