I just came back from the vet and Grace weighs 14 pounds! I don't know how this can be as I have cut back one of their daily snacks. She is eating less and getting bigger! She will be 2 next April so I guess they are still growing, but I can barely lift the 2 carriers (Blondie is 11 pounds).

Grace is a BIG girl!!!!! Every kitty is different. No two cats are going to have the same body mass, fat ratio and weigh the same. What did the vet say? Is she overweight? Maybe not? I can barely lift Raiden in the carrier and he's only 12.4 pounds. Yeah, I have a little guy!!!! Who thinks he's a big, tough guy, but he's not. The vet says Raiden is the perfect weight for his frame. You can't really compare both of your kitties, Jill. They may be sisters, but even human sisters will weigh different amounts. I've seen your pictures and videos and I've never noticed that Grace is overweight -- so I guess she's not.

The groomer weighed them when they got their nails trimmed. She was a pound less the last time the vet saw her but she didn't comment about either weight. The vet believes in feeding dry and wet only as an occasional treat. I don't think that is ideal. She also thinks grain free is a gimmick.

Th fact that she gained a pound when I cut back on the amount makes me think she is still growing. Blondie has always been 2-3 pounds lighter and has a much smaller bone structure.

Jagger had put on a bit of weight since his last visit to the vets as well when we took them for their boosters the other week, but the vet wasn't worried or tell me to put him on a diet. He's just over 2 now, and I also have cut down on their wet. His body shape is totally different to Hendrix, he's more compact and solid, but definitely not fat, he's solid muscle. Hendrix hasn't gained any weight and is lighter than jagger but we always thought he'd be the heaviest as he was always so gangly and we assumed he'd grow into his frame. He's remained gangly though lol

They weighed in at 6.1kg and 5.6kg.

I love the sound of running water. Okay, Grace is a hefty girl! There is nothing "lean" about her and I'm sure she's not wearing a full winter coat since you live in sunny South Florida!!! Raiden is so lean and muscular! I don't know how the females are supposed to be shaped, but I'm thinking she could stand to a pound or two!!! I'm seeing her as a 7 on this chart. What do you think, Jill?

Yes she is a 7 I think. I Agee, they should both be at least a pound lighter. They share 3oz can of wet food in the morning and at night. They also get 1/3 cup of dry when I leave for work, 1/4 cup of dry at 4:00 and 1/4 cup around 10 pm. They share the dry food too. They seem to eat at the same pace and are always hungry. I guess I could eliminate their 4:00 snack and see how they do. I usually get home from work around 7 though. So they would be without food from 8:30-7:00.

Or I could try to get out the door without giving them their dry food at 8:30. That is generally how I distact them. They have the first meal of wet food around 5am. Maybe just smaller amounts of dry food...it's hard, their food is so important to them.

Maybe I am just babying them. My last cat ate a couple ounces in the morning and at night. It took her hours to eat that much. She just didn't care much about food and was very thin. But then she just sat on a pillow and slept.

Grace needs more exercise! When you feed two kitties, it's hard to just have one get fewer calories. You might want to see if you can find your wet/dry food in a lower calorie option. These manufacturers now are catering to all types of diseases and there are weight control foods out there. You don't want Grace to feel Blondie is getting more food than she does and when you work and are away, it's very difficult to control, and you want your kitties to have something to eat while you're gone. But, it sounds like your kitties probably sleep most of the day away. I think a kitty treadmill is in order for Grace at least.

Grace has never gone on the wheel. Blondie hops on every day and sprints a little. The both run around on the patio when I am home, but I am sure they sleep most of the day. I just stocked up on their wet food. Venison is pretty lean. I didn't give them any afternoon snacks yesterday and they seemed to be okay. Of course I was home so there were plenty of distractions. Today is the first time I didn't put the auto feeder down so they are without food until I come home tonight. Grace gave Blondie the evil eye this morning when they were eating their wet food and Blondie moved away and watched Grace eat her share. I am afraid that is how dieting will go.
