Hi Sherry

Keeping them separate is virtually impossible in our house...

Yes, I think we're very close to the end of the road with this... or maybe there already... the only blessing is that the current diet is keeping poos solid and smells low... I am keeping the pro biotics going too... a case of trying to keep the TF numbers down... at least while it's shed in compact solid poo it's not as likely to spread and multiply...

I'm expecting a call again from Langford, the specialist pet hospital, tomorrow... to see what they say... the only other option would be to do another two week hospital admission and go with a higher dose, maybe for 3 weeks instead of two... But there might be a reluctance .... that would be the third dose of this stuff... & comfortable as they are, these hospital visits must be a bit like a short prison term... which I hate putting them through. It took Rufus (the large F3) a good month to settle back into the household.

Luckily the insurance has covered the lions share of the cost... but this has so far cost £1000s and we're no closer to eradicating it than we were at the very beginning.....

To say it's frustrating would be an understatement

You obviously have the patience of a saint! I would be tearing my hair out, I'm sure! Thankfully, the poos are solid, so it may be easier to get rid of the parasite that way. I just feel bad for your babies! This isn't fun for them and another hospital stay would not be a grand time either. Hopefully, the medication will work and get rid of the TF once and for all.

A further update

At present things are going very well with the cats. We chose NOT to re medicate with Ronadizol. We initially kept them on the special GI diet and pro biotics which kept the poo very solid and clean. We kept the trays very clean too.

The dry poos and pro biotics seem to have suppressed the TF considerably. Both cats tested negative for it last time... I suspect it is still present ... but in far smaller levels and heavily suppressed by the diet and probiotics.

We can now feed them on fish, other types of kibble and pieces of cooked chicken and their poo remains totally solid. They both remain very healthy although Rufus has become slightly over weight so we are now having to restrict his feeds a bit.. the GI food is very high calorie which didn't help this.

So the special food worked at solidfying the poo even with TF still present. The Ronadzol managed to killl most of the TF and bring it's levels right back down... the continued use of pro biotics has helped this. The only thing I would say is that if you are going to treat with Ronidazol give it a better chance of working by first firming up the poos with the special GI food. Firm hard poo means less spread and multiplication of the parasite....

SO for now things are good... long may it continue...

Thankfully the insurance (Pet Plan) has covered most of this... current spend around £4k! !!!
