I'm totally heartbroken, my beautiful boy got hit by a car yesterday and killed, I have his niece at home who was always very reliant on him and completely doted on him! Everywhere he went, she would follow. We're going to see how Layla goes (alone) for a few months, but I live at home with my mum who said bringing another cat into the house isn't an option, and I'm not prepared to give her up, no way! Will she be ok alone with me? She's only 1, I'm hoping she'll adapt and be ok? Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

I am so very sorry for your loss. That's one reason I advise against letting cats outside unsupervised! You're grieving and I'm sure Layla is grieving for him as well. She will probably mope around looking for him as his scent is still in the house. You'll have to spend a lot more time with her and play with her. I'm sure you both will be fine. {{{HUGS}}}

Give her up? That definitely shouldn't even be on the table. Not even in the deepest region of your thoughts. You and your mom were part of her family too, so she needs you more than ever now. The last thing she needs is go to off somewhere else and lose her *entire* family.

Just give her a lot of attention, and please don't let her out onto the street, and she should be fine.

I know you are not gong to give up your other kitty. Just love on her a whole lot more! She needs you as much as you need her.

Thank you for replies. She's not going anywhere. We're just worried she's going to be craving cat attention. She's playing which is a good sign. She's got entertainment from the outdoors too! I hope she'll be ok.

Layla had a very little play earlier with a few of her new toys, and the laser pen, her favourite. I'm taking this all as a positive sign.

Hang in there. Giving her some extra play time and attention is what she'll need. And it will be good for you as well.
