I took my rehomed 8year old Bengal girl to the vet last week with, what can only be described as, 'death breath'. I was advised that she would need a scale and polish but when under anaesthetic the vet found that she needed 5 teeth removing including an upper canine. She also required her gum/jaw grinding away to ensure all the tooth roots were removed so no further infection would set in.
As she is my first Bengal I wondered if anyone had experienced this problem? She is otherwise a very happy healthy cat but I have no idea of her past history, we rehomed her just over a year ago, she had previously been used for breeding so I would have thought she would have been well cared for?

Quasar is my first Bengal cat. He is now 3 years old. I have never had a cat with better oral health. He has always been fed a strictly raw diet. I think this helps with his teeth and overall health.
My previous cats were fed a combination of dry/wet/semi-moist foods. A lot of folks think that dry cat food somehow cleans the teeth. Au contraire, cleaning teeth with dry food is like brushing your teeth with cake.

My Raiden will have his teeth cleaned in August for the first time. I'm going to see if I can get him to allow me to brush them for him to help keep the tarter from coming back so soon (yeah, good luck to me). He's had several annual visits and they never mentioned the tarter build up to me. It is quite common for teeth to have to removed in cats when things get too severe. Do not expect a breeder to take exceptional care of her queen -- the queen seems to be there to produce babies and may not get annual checkups from the vet. Especially, if they are overbreeding the female and the vet will give them a stern talking to.

Hopefully, your kitty will return to eating just fine with the missing teeth. You can always try the brushing of their teeth as well. I've seen YouTube videos and some of the cats love it. Just remember, you're putting your finger in their mouth!
