Hi all somewhat new to the Bengal world. Just went to get Billy Joe fixed and the vet said they couldn't because he has a grade 3 heart murmur. So we have to bring him to a specialist to have some tests done. He's almost 7 months old now and we love him to death. Has anyone here had this happen to their Bengal? Does anyone have any information regarding this issue? Is it common among Bengals? The breeders we bought the cat from never provided me with paperwork on the kitten however said the parents both had paperwork which I'm in the process of trying to acquire. I hate to accuse anyone but I'm now somewhat suspicious if the heart murmur may be due to In breeding? Thanks for any info anyone may provide. I had a friend that had a cat that had a heart murmur he was neutered but I don't know what grade he had. She is a breeder she sold him he came back due to that. She had him neutered and she did find him a home. He needs multi tests and medication so I am assuming that he had a high grade one since they did not give him a long live maybe 5-7 years if they were lucky.
Sorry to hear about your baby. I am on my second Bengal she's about 7 months. My other Bengal I had was a rescue.

Hopefully someone hear can give you advise. But I would say that murmurs' are in any cat can have that.

I'm not sure being honest, it would be better to get a referral to a cardiologist and ask more questions.
A friend of mine has a friend with HCM and she was spayed. I'm not sure a grade 3 is an immediate concern but there could be a mixture of things maybe that is concerning the vet?

I know I'm late to the party. Raiden has a grade 2 heart murmur. They are quite common in bengals due to the limited early generation kitties. In checking Raiden's pedigree all the way back to the ALC, it was the same cats over and over and over again. Raiden is neutered! I don't see why a cat with a grade 3 heart murmur cannot be neutered. It's a simple operation, although the main problem would be with the anesthesia. I would consult with a vet specializing in cardiology just to make sure. You will want to get your kitty neutered to avoid a lot of the behavior issues that arise later.

I live in Spain and my vet advised me to do some test on Cougar when he is a little older to exclude (hopefully) any heart murmurs.
This to avoid problems with possible future anesthesia, like mentioned before.
It is common in Bengals.
In your case I would have a second opinion about the grade of his murmurs.

Raiden is due to have his teeth cleaned in August and will be given anesthesia. Dr. Coles did not seem to be alarmed over the fact that he has a grade 2 heart murmur. I'm sure they will monitor him closely, but his teeth really do need to be cleaned at this point.
