Hi folks,

i'm new here and i really need a piece of advice.. I'm so confused..
I got a bengal kitty two months ago, since i have a cat at home, she's FLV positive and she lost her sister, it was very hard for her..
I was told by my vet and read on the internet that bengals are naturally immune to FELV.. now i read that's not true.. so.. how is it??? I don't want my precious babylove to get sick.. please, tell me if you know.. i'm pretty desperate...

Thank you all

xxx

I'm not sure actually I've read both like you.

I hope someone will be along to give you some advice either way. So sorry to hear about your sad loss.

No they are not immune to FELV.

In the beginning Dr.centerwall started a project regarding asian leopard cats and their immunity to FELV, that is why often the name Centerwall will appear at the very beginning of Bengal pedigrees. Jean Mill who started the breed worked with him/after him I beleive.

The actual SBT (4+ generations away from ALC) bengals don't have this immunity. If your cat roams, mixed with other cats etc then having the FELV may be a wise choice.
