How often do I need to brush my kitties' teeth?

I can't believe i don't know this, but it has been a long time since my last cat, and I don't ever remember us brushing her teeth. They are on dry food only if that helps.

Plus, what pastes and brushes have you found to be the best?

Are you supposed to brush thier teeth? I thought biscuits cleaned them? Am I a bad Mum

I don't brush mine - I don't fancy sticking my fingers in their mouths to be honest. I figure that if they eat biscuits and mice then their teeth should be OK.

Mine have always had big juicy bones to gnaw on, and raw meat is very good for teeth

Any bone really, beef/lamb, a large chicken bone etc.. Either raw or cooked if you prefer. They absolutely love them, and yes they even try to bury them just like a dog!

Would raw be better as they don't splinter as much because there not so brittle.

You can just pull the little bones off, but the beef and lamb ones normally don't splinter at all. Mine do mainly have the bones from a cooked joint, although occasionally they are treated to a raw one from the butchers

I give mine raw bones occasionally..
or they will help themselves when Ive left them on the kitchen worktop for the dog!

they love chewing them, you can see all the muscles working around their jaws

and the noices they make are hilarious..

Turkey necks are good, chicken wings too.....and whole mackerel.

A quality biscuit will help to keep the teeth clean, you can buy toothpaste and a kind of "finger brush" for cats but I imagine it being quite a task to perform.

I remember someone showing me some that was "meaty" flavored....Bizarre!!!

I've just read something about a cat who has a parrot as a best friend, the parrot nibbles away at the tartar as part of their daily grooming session together....a very dangerous past time, but apparently true.
