We adopted my Slurpee a few years ago when he was about 7yrs old. He was skinny with runny poop, intermittent vomiting and intermittent anorexia. We did CBC, PCR diarrhea panel and he came back good with CBC but positive for TF on PCR. We did the Ronidazole treatment and it took care of the TF but he has consistently had reoccurring anorexia, mushy poop and intermittent vomiting. Vet says he has ibd and we have treated him with limited ingredient prescription food, probiotics, metronidazole and prednisone steroids daily for awhile now and he still has episodes. Never gets over 10lbs...he's now 8 lbs 4oz and we've done annual ultrasounds. The ultra sounds have shown thickening or inflammation in his small intestines but not much more than that. He was low on his b12 at one point so we've been giving him b12 shots weekly-biweekly. His last CBC, PLI, fpli, b12 absorption tests have come back great dispite his intermittent anorexia, poop/vomiting issues. The only weird thing has been he was a little low on his cholesterol count. He's going in for another ultrasound and teeth cleaning next week. Teeth are a must because he's got some questionable sensitive teeth. I'm hoping he will eat more enthusiastically if he gets those fixed. I just am at such a loss with my boy . We are so worried about him and it seems like my vets protocol isn't helping him. I want to go for a second opinion and third, fourth opinion...whatever it takes to help him. We don't have a lot of money but we go without for ourselves so we can pay his vet bills. I just am scared we are missing something here with my vet. I am scared this treatment protocol isn't working and it's going to cause other problems
/side effects eventually and that it will soon cause him to decline even further in health. I need to go to a doc that has proven effective results with bengals and these ibd issues for another opinion but that's going to be even more money... I feel like I'm in a mine field here and I need to choose my steps carefully for my boy so my money doesn't blow up and race against time so that my boy doesn't blow up. Any recommendations for vets in the northern new jersey area would be helpful. I've just switched his food back to natures variety instinct rabbit canned food since he was not eating his prescription royal canin limited ingredient venison /pea anymore. Any advice please help. We can't afford to be on this path of treatment for him as its not working. Only thing I forgot to mention, last PCR done was 2012 and he was still negative for TF but positive for clostridium and corona virus. Vet said clostridium was probably because of poop issue and corona virus could be just a carrier. He said treatment for clostridium would be the metranidazole and the corona virus there is nothing. Strange that he wasn't positive for either of these on first PCR in 2011.
