Hello! I know I've been gone a while, but a lot has happened since my last post. I will post a proper update with pictures and stuff in another section.
Yesterday after coming home from work,my Jazz met me at the door drenched with saliva. I realized he was excessively drooling. And i mean drooling a lot. I straight away put him in a carrier and went to this university vet hospital.It was already very late and none of normal vet clinics were open. It's an 40 min drive. We've got there and were seen by the doctor immediately. Poisoning (that's what popped into my mind straight away at first) was ruled out. Blood test were otherwise normal, except that Jazz was very dehydrated from all the drooling. The vet didnt really know what what's wrong with him. Her primary diagnose is acute gastrointestinal infection. She said he was feeling nauseous and that's why was drooling so much. I was also told to expect some diarrhea. Jazz got some fluid under his skin and meds to spot nausea and we went home.
Well, drooling hasnt stopped. It's not as dramatic as yesterday, but still quite a lot. Otherwise he seems to be fine. Eats well. Doesnt play all that much, but otherwise is normally curious and engaged with my actions.No diarrhea yet. I really don't know what to think. I'm starting to think that he was misdiagnosed.This doesnt look like a stomach bug, because he has normal stool. I'm very worried and quite angry at the vet if she really did misdiagnose, cause that hospital is very very expensive.. I was told to come back if his symptoms get worse or he becomes lethargic.. which i will obviously do.. I guess I just wanted to know if you had any experiences like this with your cats?

thank you, Brianj12.You're almost always the first one to answer. What I meant to ask was whether anyone's cat had similar symptoms. Excessive saliva,gas in intestines, no pain. I'd love to hear your stories.
I do understand that it is difficult to diagnose cats, since they can't talk. I understand the diagnostic process (i'm an sA&E nurse). Still I feel very frustrated and stressed out. So many emotions are involved. I just wish something more was done. I'm taking Jazz to a different vet recommended by the breeder tommorrow if his condition will stay the same or get worse.

Jazz has gone through all possible tests today. poor guy. good news is that there seems to be nothing wrong with him. With intravenous fluids he seems to perk up and now he's himself again. Very cuddly and loving since I took him from the hospital. He probably thought that I left him there for good. Seems to be just fine now. Ate, drunk, spilled two bowls of water, used this litter box twice in two hours. Maybe I overreacted. Maybe he was miraculously cured or something. anyway, I 'm glad.

nope, no Christmas plants. I think because of this scare, I'm put off any potential hazard, including any plants (even though I love plants) and Christmas tree. Good I don't have children yet.=)

I am glad to hear he is doing better. I know I am late to the party, but I thought I would shar my two drooly cat experiences:

1. Cat stole a cherry tomato, ate the stem, smashed it and probably licked up some of the juice. Tomatoes are poisonous to cats.

2. Seriously comstipated cat - wouldn't poop for days, very lethargic and drooly. He spent the night at the vet, two enemas, IVs, etc. Finally made the largest poop ever - it was human sized - and he was fine. The vet thinks he ate the fur from a toy mouse.

The video at the water bowl is so funny. My cats play in the water bowls too. Last night I could hear Blondie pushing her water bowl around for a long time. Then she came over to me and her feet, legs stomach and chest were soaking wet! I had just taken a shower, maybe she wanted one too? She laid on top of me and licked herself dry.
