Ok heard back from vet. I was very upset but have calmed down a bit now.

Dexter has tested positive not only for TF but other viruses as well. Vet told me this is usual with BYB. I don't understand because when we collected Dexter he was the only cat in the house (which was very posh) and lady was lovely.

They mentioned the treatment for TF (sorry can't remember name) but they want to treat him for the other viruses first. They are going to treat with Panecurr (sp?), if that doesn't work then antibiotics and then the TF treatment. We have asked for the same treatment for our old Burmese too.

I have gone along with this as at least they have agreed as a last resort to try the TF treatment.

My head is whirling and I am crying for my old Burmese having to go through all this too.

At least I know what I am dealing with and I am thankful for that.

I'm so sorry it wasn't better news, but at least you know what's the poor guy has and there is a treatment plan. It sounds like your vet is A+ too.

Thank you so much. I was feeling so disheartened and upset and the worst thing was I had to rush out and collect my 11 year old from school whilst wiping tears away!

I realise now this is good news in a way as at least we know what we are dealing with. I am very lucky that the poop sample I took was right before the vet visit so we have had back a good battery of results I think.

On my limited knowledge I think the vet is going about it in the right way. We will pick up the first treatment tomorrow for the two of them.

I would ensure the Ronidazole is given for TF at some point. My one cat suffers badly from it going untreated for so long.

This is probably far easier to deal with than a food intolerance! So it is better to have a diagnosed issue.

Breeding a kitten with these issues doesn't necessarily make the breeder bad. You said Dexter had no issues until now so it is likely it was dormant for some time. It is also possible, as he had no symptoms till now, that he has got it from your other cat. They don't have to be symptomatic at the time. It is shed intermittently. It is also possible to tread stuff in the house on shoes etc.... That is contaminated.

I would inform the breeder in a none judgmental way and see what they say/do or advise. It is hard after so long with no symptoms from the breeders house.

I'm really very sorry to hear that, but at least you know what you are dealing with now and it sounds like you have a really good vet as well.

I'm sure Muskey will surprise you with how well he deals with the treatments, although it's not nice and a really worrying time.

At least you can start treatment for them both tomorrow and concentrate on getting them healthy again.

Hi there.

I've been asked to keep Dexter on the Hill's Prescription Diet I/d for a month. I've decided to put both cats on it as they are both being treated by the Vet.

Difficulty is they are starting to go off it.

Would it be ok to mix it with a little of their complimentary food (they love the Encore range) to make it more tempting? Any other ideas?

I've got a month's worth in of the Hill's which has cost me a small fortune so it has to be used up one way or another.

Thanks Brian. It's only today they have started to refuse it.

Dexter is usually that hungry he will pretty much eat anything and I am beginning to wonder now if that was a symptom of the parasitic infections he has. Probably was.

I'm hoping that because he is being more fussy than usual means this particular parasite is working its way out of his system but maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

We are having roast chicken tonight so I'll make sure dh doesn't scoff it all and save some for Dexter and Muskey. Hopefully plain chicken will be ok for their tum.

I agree there's no point starving them. Just wanted to do everything possible to help them recover. I worry about chopping and changing their food every 5 minutes.

Thank you :)
