First of all I am really glad I found this forum with many useful advises and stories


Ok so I am a proud owner of a 5month old kitten Nuri

I switched her to applaws wet (156g can per day) and dry (I leave about 40g for her in case she gets hungry during the day)

She enjoys the food but her poo is runny
Also she farts a lot.. She was having Taste of the wild dry food before so I thought she farts because of the peas in the food but since I have changed the dry food to applaws that shouldnt be the reason...
Any thoughts?

We had similar problems with our two. We tried anything and everything we were told to do by the vet and our breeder!!. In the end we found a food that they liked and stuck with it but still had the same troubles from time to time!. Drove us nuts as we had to clean them after they had been to the litter tray. As they got older(around a year old'ish) it just stopped!? They have been fine ever since..... unless they eat something they shouldn't. We put it down to having a very sensitive stomach when they were kittens???

This is a problem for one of my soon to be 8 month old kittens. They both had this issue in the beginning, but one grew out of it and is very healthy. The other one has runny poo and leaves the box with a messy bottom that winds up on the floor, chairs etc until I notice and clean her up. Luckily she permits me to help her. She also has red itchy eyes that seem to be chronic. I have an appointment with the vet again tomorrow, but they don't seem to be able to get to the "bottom" of this. It's so frustrating because I know these issues are bothersome for her as well and she is such a sweet cat.

Also two of their beds have been soaked through with pee in the last two weeks. This really concerns me. I don't know which cat did this, but I suspect the one that is having the runny bottom and red eyes. Maybe she is really ill and all the vet visits isn't uncovering the real problem.

Yes I had this problem, my other half thought I was obsessed with their poo but he was at sea and it was me having to clean it up! Grain free, high meat content helped, and even now I have to avoid lamb and liver, but now they are over a year old I rarely have any issues. But of course I can't control what they eat when they are outside.

It took me ages to find food that suited them and wasn't too rich for their tummies when they were younger but Hendrix, whose tummy was loads more sensitive than Jagger's, does really well on royal Canin Sensible and has it every morning for his breakfast. Moving him onto that made an instant improvement when he was a kitten - unfortunately Jagger won't touch it.

CMYKjill, I really hope the vet gets to the bottom of your girls issues soon. So worrying when they're not well. Keep us informed x

I don't think that you should just write off the fact that your cat has runny poo and hope that she grows out of it. So many people in this forum have come here with a similar problem, gone through procedure to test for TF, gotten a diagnosis for TF, then treated the problem. It could of course be a food allergy or some other medical problem, but what also happens is that you may change to a new food, see an incremental improvement, but still not make any actual headway into treating the underlying condition. My suggestion is to get a fecal flotation test done if you haven't already (which isn't conclusive, but if you are fortunate enough to get a positive result then you have a pretty straightforward and inexpensive treatment option), and then if that is negative get the TF test.

Like I said there are lots and lots of threads on people's experience with TF in the forum, which I recommend that you search for and read through.

I will try to give her less wet food (as the breeder was feeding her dry only and I was feeding her dry only at the beggining and we didnt have the poo problems, maybe her stomach is sensitive to something in wet food ) and also get her checked at the vet
