i just noticed that my cat has a very dry nose few days ago
here are the two pics i took earlier

it looks like the top layer of the tissue is coming off,
should i take him to the vet for a check up or is it normal?

I would take him to the vet and get it checked out.

Our dogs get something similar but it's not as severe as that looks.

Yea it's definitely not normal, and probably causing him quite a bit of discomfort, so definitely see the vet. That said, like Elaine said, it's a somewhat common problem. I recall some members in the past having cats with this problem, and they were given ointments and such to treat their cats nose. So definitely talk it through with your vet and see if you can get some relief for your kitty.

My cat has the exact same problem. I got him when he was 12 weeks, and he is now about 7 months. His nose has always looked cracked.

Our little guy has a dry nose as well.....comes and goes. When it is dry I put a little bit of vasoline on it (recommended by our vet). Couple days of that and he's all better for a quiet a while. Our vet said it has alot to do with the dry climate we live in (from Alberta Canada).
