Diesel was wrestling with his brother last night and ended up with a rip in his third eyelid. I packed him off to the vet this morning and after doing a dye test they said his eye did not get scratched and the rip did not affect his tear duct. We're putting drops in his eye twice a day for 2 weeks to see if it will heal. If the flap does not heal itself they will put him under and remove it so it doesn't cause any damage going forward.

I haven't ever had this happen before and the vet said he is very lucky that his eye was not scratched as well. She said they usually see at least some eye damage with these kinds of incidents.

This is what it looks like

Oh sorry to hear that. It looks sore! Thankfully his eye isn't damaged and I'll keep my fingers crossed the drops do the trick

Good morning! (well morning here lol)

It looks a lot better than it did but so far the little "flap" of eyelid (that's sticking up in his eye in the picture) hasn't healed back to the rest of the lid. It is now down under the main eyelid so at least it's not sticking up in his eye. We're going to give it another week and then have him re-evaluated again to see if the vet wants to remove it.

He still doesn't fuss with it except when I put the drops in - he hates the drops - so at least it isn't causing him discomfort.

Thank you for asking!

Good to hear its not infected and he's getting on with it - I would imagine if it doesn't heal back it will possibly need taking off - To avoid possible infection / foreign body getting caught under it in later years. Your vet may decide to leave well alone if Diesel isn't bothered for now, though, and review at a later date.

Do please keep us updated!
