My little girl is having an anesthetic on Monday so that the vet can check her bladder via x-ray and ultrasound to see if we can work out why she keeps having cystitis (pretty constant since July last year and antibiotics and dietary changes have not helped). If they find a "stone" they will then operate to remove it.

I have asked the vet and they have confirmed that they will check her bloods and will "check" her heart before the anesthetic but I am still terrified. She was fine when she was spayed and typically was running around like a mad kitty shortly afterwards but with all the talk on this forum re: HCM I'm so scared that something will go wrong.

Is there anything else I should ask the vet to do before hand to reduce the risk?

There's not really much they can do to be honest, and like humans, each cat reacts differently to anesthetics.

I've had cats all my life and thus far none have had adverse reactions to anesthetic. But if they do, they are in the best place to have that reaction, as vets know what they're doing and how to treat it.

Make sure it's not ketamine as all cats can have a nasty reaction to this.

I'm not sure bloods are necessary before the anaesthetic really, they would not show anything that would contraindicate anaesthesia. In fact, it's more likely to stress her out more. Can be done under anaesthetic with no stress to her at all.

Thank you all. I have had the call to say that she is fine and that I can collect her after work. Have an appointment with the vet then to see what, if anything, they found.
