Something is stressing Widget out a lot.
Whether this is to do with new smell, Pixel reaction or else you need to find out.
I would start elliminating all of them one by one.
Start with swapping their smells- towel or brushing.
Does he sleep in the same spot as before all of this happened?
Try zylkene meds on Widget for few weeks to calm him down. Also spend more time with them both playing, talking
Maybe his new medication irritating him in any way? Bladder irritation perhaps or other adverse effects?
Can you ask vet for advice on medications?
Spraying is very tricky, most likely he will continue . so maybe restrict their access t spraying area for now?

I just re-read a whole thread again.
I think his peeing issues have not been fully sorted, I think he is still in pain and that's why spraying/not using his tray.
What is his diagnosis ?
Is it cystasis?
What is he on now?
If its just a case of cystasis, we used cystophan which helped us. Also tried cranberry extracts in the food, which seemed good too .
Def bring Pixel to vets next time, it will help him.
Poor baby.

Re returning him to the trays - this will work only when he is fully recovered though -try new tray + new softer litter.

Thanks Laurel, much appreciated.

We turned the door handle upside down on the living room door so he cant get in. This means that during the day he has access to the hall, stairs, "cat room" (third bedroom) my bedroom and the bathroom. My housemate keeps his door shut during the day too.

Pixel is being a lot better. A lot calmer. There's the odd hiss and meow but she's a LOT quieter about it and isn't screaming the house down. She can tolerate him standing next to her, looking at her, walking past her and sniffing her. So that's great progress. She has the odd grumble now and again but isn't swiping at him and seems to want to sniff him more than anything now.

I'm going back to the vet on Saturday to try and find out what the problem was/is. They sent some samples to the lab to try and find out as they weren't sure what caused it or what it is/whether it's gone etc.

Today we came home and the only place Widget had peed was in a plastic washing basket (which was empty). There was a fair amount of pee in there so we wondered if he kept going back to that. We were thinking of leaving it where it was today because if he pees in that, he can't destroy it or wreck anything else (like my bed!). We then thought we might be able to put a litter tray in it's place and hope that he goes there. We actually tipped some of the pee from the basket into the existing litter trays too, to try and encourage him back to those. No idea if that will make a scrap of difference though! I'll have a look at some other cat litters as well and see if that helps.

When he was first home he used the litter trays fine. So I think it's more stress related now because of Pixel's reaction- but I'll ask the vet about the illness side on Saturday. He had accidents when he was ill (before he had to stay at the vets) but that was more because he was blocked and suddenly had to go NOW. He's not bloating up like he did before so I don't think he's got a blockage. He certainly hasn't felt firm or anything when I've touched him.

He does seem very nervous and reserved though and I think that's mostly due to Pixel. He's not sleeping where he normally does- he's choosing to sleep on a linen box in the hall than curled round my legs on my bed. I think he's struggling to find out where he fits in again after everything that has gone on both at the vets and with Pixel.

We are playing with him and talking to him. He's not really interested in fuss at the moment and seems quite withdrawn. Normally if I call him he'd come trotting over to see what I want and would sometimes have fuss if he felt like it. Now he either doesn't come over at all, walks off in the other direction or slowly makes his way over but walks off again.

Apologies for my rather whiny post yesterday, I was feeling rather low and rather exhausted and when my car died too it felt like it was being piled on a bit! Hopefully the car is fixable though. I shall have to practice the old "grin and bear it" technique, I think!

Neow, you need to help him to relax first - its obvious he s been through a lot and maybe still in pain, plus Pixel reaction does not help. Try zylkene or cystophan. But ask your vet first. He will continue peeing and spraying whist he is that stressed and scared.
On blockage-
Grasses came to my mind.Do they eat any at the moment? Maybe that could help with the blockage natural way?
Again pls ask your vet first, as I'm not specialist.
If yes, I would get a lot of grass trays plus grow catnip etc.
Let him throw up if he wants to.

I know what you are going through and you need to pull yourself together as Widget needs your help and straight thinking now. Car is nothing. Health is more important. Stay strong!
Keep us posted.

New litter will work only when he is fully recovered.
Otherwise he will try it out few times then realise that it still hurts to pee and will continue spray pee elsewhere.

Woohoo! Finally a positive post!

We came home from work and Widget was waiting at the door for us. He seemed slightly more confident than previous days. We said hello, made sure he was alright and then checked the house... no pee! We had a UV/blacklight torch turn up today which we ordered for checking round the house. No pee anywhere except in the trays. So hopefully he has been using the trays ok (perhaps tipping his pee in it from the basket helped?). He doesn't look or feel bloated at all so we're thinking he has actually used the trays instead of not using them at all. All of their food was gone from this morning too and Widget was keen to eat his food with his medicine in it. In fact, he had an extra helping of food later on too. So it looks like he's getting back on track with eating.

He seemed a lot more curious and inquisitive and followed me around a fair bit. Then he actually jumped on my bed with me and meowed for fuss and cuddles (of which he got LOADS haha). He had some fuss off my housemate too.

Then he had a mad five minutes and ran around (actually bounded around like he normally does) and jumped up the tree/on the furniture etc.

And THEN he wandered round the downstairs meowing his little head off. Not in pain or scared- just meowing to himself like he often did before all this kicked off.

I am so happy- especially when he trotted up to my bed, jumped up and had loads of fuss. I've missed that so much.

Unfortunately we're not able to get to the vets tomorrow as my car is still playing up and I don't have anyone to take us so I've had to rearrange the appointment. However, I'm feeling much more positive about things than I was the last couple of days. He's so much like his old self.

We're still keeping an eye on him and giving him his meds from the vet (cystaid) but this is the brightest and happiest he has been for a while.

Pixel is also doing fine. She's been fine with Widget running about this evening. We had one tiny hiss from her earlier but I think it was because Widget took her by surprise when he ran round the corner. So that's great too.

We're so happy that he's so much more like his old self today and obviously so much more relaxed. He's currently curled up in the armchair having a good snooze. Hopefully this behaviour will continue. I've got a long weekend now- no work 'til Tuesday. So I'll be able to keep a closer eye on him and give both of them lots of attention.

No accidents around the house overnight and two happy kitties sleeping on my legs, right next to each other, all night. Peace has been restored in the Pixel-Widget household.
