I can't sleep, I'm worried and my mind is reeling.

This evening, Sunday, I came home at 14:00 and found a pool of yellow water on the kitchen floor and a spot of blood in it. DO NOT WORRY, I plan on going to the vet asap, in about 5 hours.

I have two bengal cats, litter mates, a boy and girl. I'm pretty sure it's the little girl who is sick. (I'll have them both evaluated though) The past few days she has been really lovey and vocal, which is not normal and I've noticed a musky smell that seems to emit from her. I thought the smell may have been my mind playing tricks but now I believe I'm not crazy.

I feed them wet canned food. A mixture of brands and meats, I did this because I didn't want picky cats. They get Natural Balance, Wellness and Core, Blue Buffalo Wilderness. Also, I used a calorie calculator on the internet to determine how much food to give them. They get fed twice a day and they eat from the same bowl. They tend to start begging for food a couple of hours before feeding time. I feed them friskies temptation treats after I brush them, clip their nails, brush their teeth and to satiate them before meal time.

They have an electric water fountain which I clean often, every 2-3 days. The charcoal filter gets rinsed at that time and is replaced every two weeks. The girl is always chugging water.

Their litter box is a giant rubbermaid 20" x 30" and 16" tall. No lid and I use the bin litter from petco because it seems to have the least amount of dust and it's unscented. I used to have one with a hole cut in the side but my dog likes to get in there and snack on the kitty rocca, the tall walls keep her out. I scoop it at least twice a day.

Also, a recent stressor for the little girl. I took her brother for a 15 minute walk on harness and leash around the yard, Friday. I rarely do this and when I did she cried, a very morose guttural sound. She doesn't like to go outside but the boy loves it. I should do it for him more often. :/

They have a 6' ebay bought tree, lots of shelves hanging on the wall just for them and some homemade scratching posts all around the house.

After we see the vet I want to shop for a blacklight and some cat urine cleaner. I assume WalMart will have a blacklight or maybe I can visit HotTopic in the mall. What kind of cleaner should I get? I've seen the Cat Whisperer show and he talked about a urine cleaner that you can't buy in the store. What should I look for in a cleaner? Any brand names you folks know?

As for getting rid of urine stains, any anti-bacterial enzymatic cleaner will do the trick. I live in the US and use SimpleSolution. It's economical, the fragrance is fresh, and you can find it in any mainstream pet supply store.

The Doc said they looked and felt fine. He pretty much said what is expressed in the article AzaBoy linked and what brianj12 said... Don't overreact, domesticated cats are strange animals.
He did send us home with a liquid antibiotic just in case there is something icky going on.

So I guess the lesson today is that an inappropriate #1 with a spot of congealed looking blood can be normal for cats, unless it is accompanied with other symptoms.
In my defense, I've never owned/lived with cats before, these bengal babies are my first.

Giving them a choice of bathrooms is an easy luxury I can provide. I'll do that. Maybe 3 smaller ones, 20"x30" is pretty big and 3 of them would be significant square footage.

p.s. brianj12, just to clarify, I've been using the same size litterbox, without an easy access hole, for almost 2 years now. My point with that bit of information was to explain that they have to jump up and clear 16" to use their toilet, and to explain why I made it an obstacle to get in. I can't turn my back on the dog and what she perceives as edible. Ha, I did say I don't like picky eaters. ;p
