our adopted cat,Tabitha,has grotty teeth(vets term) and is now on steroids for this.Going back next wednesday where the decision to remove them will be made
She is not a bengal but does anybody have any experience of cats losing teeth ad being ok afterwards
vet did say they would not remove the molars and she should be better wthout them

That is what you get when you get adopted by a stray, but we would not be without her, and now we will not have any way of finding out how old she is
Her favourite place to sleep is on my pillow

There are some yummy (and complete food) pate style foods on the market and I would recommend starting a transfer onto a new soft pate food sooner rather than later, especially if your kitty is fussy about change.
(brands to suggest or try depend on location... always check food for added sugar and avoid that)

She will be unaffected by having less teeth if she has a soft easy to eat food that suits her and is complete... if she is used to (and happy with) the new soft food before her op and comes home to it she should hopefully be able to eat right away with no issues.

Run the soft/smooth food idea passed your vet ofc. they know what teeth will remain and can advise you if a different food would be helpful or even needed.

She is not that keen on pate food,well some types (unusually she prefers the cheaper ones)
but I will run it past the vet

some chav kicked my old cats teeth out because he walked over to her and she didn't like me for no reason. Took her hate out on my poor cat.
This was 6 years ago. He had to have the smashed teeth extracted and had maybe 4 teeth left after (He only had two at the front). I was devastated but anyway - He was fine but I had to mush his food for him and monitor him for a few weeks. His mouth healed well and he was back to running outside and catching mice and such within a month, he was a strong fluff ball. He lived fine with limited teeth until last year.



Sadly some other chav intentionally murdered him with their dog and their car in 2013 so he's no longer here.

I had a cat a number of years ago that was in the same situation. The vet suggested that she have one of her front canines removed, and so it was done. Long term it didn't affect her too much but short term it caused her a lot of pain. She was lethargic and wouldn't eat for a while after the surgery. I had to take her back in to the vets a couple of times for additional pain medication, which helped her. So that's something to watch out for... getting teeth removed is painful (like we'd all expect) and so you need to watch your cat carefully after the surgery to make sure the pain is managed sufficiently while your cat recovers.

She ate a "regular" diet after that. Mostly canned food.

I had a cat years ago who lost a hell of a lot of his teeth due to a virus. He ended up with about 4-6 left.
He lived a perfectly happy, long life, eating just about everything. They just learn to compensate.
We fed him softer foods, but that did not stop him helping himself to whatever else he wanted and could consume.

Thanks everybody. I would rather her have no teeth and be healthy than on steroids and other medication just to keep her teeth
Talking to my mum she told me that one of our cats lost his teeth (they also were grotty ) and he was up and eatng within 48 hours.and he lived another 6 years
Tabitha or Tabs is a fiesty lovable vocal individual who loves Ham and cat milk

Our 16 year old Persian has only 3 teeth left poor old girl lol but she eats the same diet as always with no issues, she has dry, wet and treats

Tabitha had teeth removed today....... £196 it cost us
Brought her home and she ate a full plate of her usual food no problem and is now drinking cat milk as if nothing has changed
Got to take her back on Monday and give her metacam ,just as I have got her taking tablets no problem :)
