My kitten has been having a similar issue.

I've had him for exactly three weeks now, and we have not given him any medication (ABs or otherwise) other than one vaccination at 13 weeks. He is now 15 weeks and one day old. The day we brought him home, he had gas. I smelled it about 4-5 times in a few hours and it was very smelly. That evening, his poop was lighter in color and quite squishy. Since then, all of his other poops have been dark brown and VERY smelly.

He is currently eating 1/2 raw chicken and turkey meat and 1/2 blue buffalo. It seems that he drinks quite often for a bengal, and I'm hoping that he isn't getting dehydrated.

I took two fecal samples to the vet for a single fecal test, and it came back negative. We got the results this morning. Should I assume that it is TF and have testing done? He poops once each day, before we go to bed. It is dark brown, soft but not runny, and very very smelly. I usually give his butt a quick wipe right after (he tolerates it) so that he doesn't get it where he sits. His activity hasn't changed, and he seems happy and excited like normal. I did notice that his belly was quite bloated a few days ago. I fed him less the following day and it hasn't been bloated since. (gas?)

He was originally treated for guardia but he still has smelly soft poop. I am convinced he has tf but the vet didn't see it. So, I guess I just deal with it since he is the only cat and the only treatment may not even curr it and is harsh. He just got over a uti too and I have been feeding him canned food and some dry.

You can't just deal with TF. If left untreated it can cause lifelong problems such as IBS.

Please do the responsible thing and have your cat tested asap.

Responsible? I have taken this cat to the vet numerous times and the Emergency Vet twice! I have paid thousands of dollars to get this cat healthy. I have had tests done. I have done everything possible except than go buy a microscope and do daily smears myself (which I highly considered). I would like to know what more you think I should do so that I can be more of a responsible cat owner.

Why so defensive?
Im sure Lisa means do w/e is required to get a TF test done (this happens in a lab not your vet's office with a microscope) even if it means going to a new vet or demanding your current vet does the test. (*edit/ meaning - vet sends off your 3 day poop collection sample to a test lab for PCR or QPCR testing)

If health costs have really run as high as you say you should strongly consider insurance for the future.
