Hi guys

Sorry if this question is a little dumb but.....

I had a few accidents in the first 9 days or so with Rio and Chilli but since then they have used the litter tray EVERY time without fail.

I came down this morning and there was a large poop with blood in in the corner in the kitchen but the hooded litter tray was only about 8ft away and the open litter tray was even nearer! I have two guesses here as to what may have happened -

1) Chilli was in the hooded tray at the time (there is an open tray too but they haven't used that one for a good week and a half now - they choose to use the hooded tray at all times)

2) He was playfighting under the kitchen table with Chilli and got took short ??

I am not too worried and thankfully it was on lino and not carpet so easy to clean up and disinfect but any input from more expert minded peeps would be much appreciated!

BTW, the vet informed me yesterday evening that he has ordered in the Ronidazole but it will not be in for 5-10 days!! Gutted as really want to get on and treat asap

Yes, absolutely. Anytime a cat is having some kind of discomfort "going", there is a chance that they will try to seek their own remedy to it, including going in a different spot.

Your theory about the other cat occupying the box though is equally plausible. Especially if the other cat is having diarrhea, "when you gotta go, you really gotta go". So it would make a lot of sense to get a second covered box asap. The other possibility is it is the location of the second box that they are not using is somewhat undesirable for some reason.

Thanks for that Brianj12. They do not use the second litter tray (I think because it is not covered and they have gotten used to the covered one).

I would buy another hooded tray but I haven't got the room for it!! I am hoping that it was a "one off" and just because the poor thing has had an accident he will not get used to it and do it again!

Wow we have to much in common
I woke this morning to find that Jasper had pooed on my daughters carpet/rug/throw in her bedroom this morning! I have been blaming our dog and poor thing has been kept in a kennel so I can "retrain" him! All along it has been Jasper, I honestly cant tell the difference between their business! I have changed my dogs food recently so I just assumed it was him because of the change. Just a couple of days ago I walked into my kids toy room and it was saturated with pee, EVERYWHERE! I can, however, tell the difference between their pee! So I don't know if one is having accidents because the other one is, or if Jasper has decided it is uncomfortable in his litter box I would try to nip it in the bud as soon as you can! If it becomes a habit(I am terrified of this) then it will be hard to break! I have also bought a new litter box and put their old litter in it and that is the one he uses now, I don't know if I have thrown him off by changing litter or what....sigh........ it is a mess! Maybe if they like the covered box, you can replace the one you have that is open with a covered one?

That is a good suggestion Bkilgore to replace the uncovered tray they currently have with a hooded one - only thing is, the tray is quite small whereas the hooded tray is huge!! I bought it large so they can use it when they are older but I will look into it.

Got home from work and all poops in litter tray

Let's hope it was a one off

Yayyy!!!! There is nothing better than poo in a tray hope it stays that way

Well, solid poo in a tray with no sign of stinky diarrhoea and TF free would be better! One day soon....
