My daughter got in the fridge just a bit ago, and got a peice of bologna out and just set the red rind piece on the counter. I have no idea why as she knows to throw it in the trash, and always has before. Well Rebel jumped up there and ate it :( Will he pass it on his own? Has anyone had this happen before?

I would suggest keeping an eye on him and off to the vet if he appears in any discomfort with his tummy.
Fingers crossed - He may simply pass it through, so keep him in and check his poop!

I am presuming it is plastic, how big was the piece he ate as that will influence how serious it is and whether it will likely pass through or not. Did he chew it into little pieces or did he swallow it whole?
You need to keep a good eye on him, if he is sick or just a bit lethargic or just not himself then take him straight to the vet.

Is the rind plastic or did your daughter just pull off the "crust" from the baloney? A piece of bread is the only comparison I can think of...most people eat the rind as part of the piece of baloney, if that is what you are talking bout?

As for symptoms of obstruction, he, being a cat, may act normal until he can hide it no longer.
A vet visit may be in order tomorrow (if he hasn't passed it by then), to see if he has any spasm, tenderness or pain in his gut, which may give an earlier indication of trouble. If he vomits then take him right down there with a similar piece of the rind to let the vet know what he has swallowed.

Agreed. That isn't what I was thinking it was at all. Also watch for drooling (sign of nausea), not drinking or eating, and not using the litter box as well.

Thanks! He seems to still be doing fine. He is acting like his normal self. He is still eating and drinking. His poos have been normal, but still no rind. I read that it may take a day or two to pass. So fingers crossed that it does. I have been keeping a very close eye out just to make sure I catch any change in him.

How is he today?

Good to hear he's fine - It could take several days to pass through, but it sounds like the vet is prepared if needed.
Fingers crossed it will turn up dried up under a cushion or something!
