Poor Lilly I saw a kitten on the Bondi vet series that twitched like that and it was due to her microchip! When the microchip was inserted it went between nerves and she was twitching like that until they operated and removed the chip and replaced it.

Did she have an accident earlier in her life?

Your topic has your words talking about being booked for an operation but although I did care enough to remmeber this and go searching for it ect, I didnt read it entirely (again) today to see if you updated/informed about the operation being cancelled?
You are very touchy sazza... several times now you have chosen to overlook the time and genuine care Ive shown when contrbuting to your threads (inc finding links for you and other efforts) to pick out something random that you wish to be offended by and get snarky with me.

Oh dear...I didn't mean to cause any arguments. I should have checked the history myself! I vaguely recalled something happening to her when she was little but this has been going on for quite a long while now. It looked so much like nerve damage but I see you've already been down this route. I do hope you get a thorough diagnosis soon. Have you spoken to the specialist about your concerns with the FHS diagnosis?

What is your gut feeling about the cause?

EDIT: I have a slipped disc and is causes no end of pain! Pressure on a nerve can cause pain and muscle spasm far away from the area of injury. I would suspect that would be similar in a cat.

My gut feeling now is that it's a myopathy, she hasn't had a muscle biopsy to check the muscle fibres yet. Her blood tests show something's wrong with the muscles but what? I don't know.

Even tho I didn't like the last neurologist I must admit he was really thorough in checking her spine (very firm prodding and poking) and did check all her reflexes and not once did she protest. If he poked me like that I would have gone through the ceiling and I have a prolapsed disc that keeps moving and hitting the nerve

I'm 99% sure that the disc isn't causing any of the issues.

The FHS that appears in Tamika is definitely intermittent and she is normal the rest of the time. It might happen once a day or it might happen 6 times a day, or not for a week. It can last up to 10 minutes, but never much longer than that.

Oh how frustrating that the diagnosis still doesn't seem to match the issue :( I certainly agree that if you feel that something is still missing, by all means follow any route of diagnosis left. I've always thought that as a pet owner or indeed a parent, you develop a sort of sense about these things that makes you feel something isn't quite right, it's important to trust that instinct IMO.

What Lilypie mentioned about the cat with the slipped microchip is interesting, is there any chance this could have happened, perhaps when she had her fall? I would assume that the x-rays she has had before would have probably shown that, but maybe if the vets weren't considering this as a cause it could have been missed?

I hope the muscle biopsy can be arranged soon and will hopefully provide some answers at last. Fingers are crossed for you both!

Hi Piggle,

The twitching started in March when she was 4 and a half months old, she wasn't microchipped until just after 5 months once she was spayed (she was spayed early as she came into season a day before she was 5 months old)

We've repeated her blood tests today to see if her levels are still as raised or if it was indeed the sickness (allergies) causing it.

I'm booked in to see the neurologist at newmarket next tuesday and we will go from there :)
