This is just what I was looking for and Im going to make a vet appointment after the new year starts!

There is a test that is not 100% sure but still better than testing for FECV (coronavirus) only and that's testing for it AND asking for a protein electrophoresis.

When a cat has FIP, the protein profile is different from what it is usually (the albumin / immunoglobulin ratio changes) and it allows having an idea.

Also, dry FIP can cause eyes problems, uveitis to be precise, but I don't think a cataract could be a consequence.

Cats infected by FECV often have a bit of diarrhea but it's not a sure sign.

What I think you should do is have your cat tested for FECV, if he IS infected have a very strict litter tray hygien and recheck him regularly (the titre of antibodies should decrease as meemonkey said).
And if there is a symptom (neurological, big belly, bouts of fever), go to the vet for the electrophoresis.

If he's not, then no problems
