Hi all Im new here.
Ive been looking everywhere over the internet for some sort of help.

I have a young Bengal named Mowgli, he is just about 6 months old now.

When I received him at 9 weeks he seemed pretty ok, stools seemed to be normal and he seemed healthy.

Boy did things change fast.

He ended up getting cataracts at about 13 weeks old, the breeder offered an exchange, but it was to late, we had fallen in love with this boy already.

He also started to have softer stools than normal.

We ended up getting the cataracts removed(That cost a pretty penny), and now I am trying to fix this soft stinky poop thing.

At 12 weeks old he tested positive for Giardia and Roundworms.
He was given two meds, one for worms and one for protozoan parasites. Cant remember names of meds....
Sometime later he tested positive for giardia again, so he was given more meds.

Then I had him tested again later and he didnt test positive for anything.

Then I had him tested once more, and again nothing. But the vet had me give him a dewormer anyhow.

Anyhow, its been well over a month now, with absolutly no solid poop. Its semi solid, but it is still pretty nasty, I mean it is just the smelliest and softest poop it could be without being pure liquid. Which it is at times.

Im at a loss of what to do. Anyone have any suggestions?

He was on Royal Cannin coming from the breeder, so I kept him on it.

I switched to Innova Evo about a month ago to see if that would help.
If anything it seems to have made it worse.

He also seems kind of bloated, but I cant tell if he really is or if he is just getting fat. He also seems to pass gas more than he should.

THis is my first cat, and it is not the best experience. I really have no idea what to do. I want to help Mowgli, but Im so lost.

Sorry to hear you've had such a worrying time but it sounds as if you're doing everything right and getting Mowgli checked by the vet when necessary. I'm not a Bengal expert (others on here will probably be able to give you better advice) but it does seem to me that they have much more sensitive tummies than other cats. My three kittens seem to have soft stools more often than not and any change in diet seems to make things worse - I recognise your description of runny poo (and wind!!). It does seem to settle after around 2 or 3 weeks though so I would say be patient and don't be tempted to keep switching foods. The bloated tummy could just be that he's growing - my three went very tubby and solid feeling at around 5 months.

Let us know how you get on.

Hi, I am a four-cat owner, one of which is a Bengal I adopted via a mechanism I won't go into right now. But I, too, have the runny poo problem with mine, and the place I adopted him from said that in their experience he has always had this. I had him checked for parasites and the feces came back clean. Mojo (that's my Bengal) seems not to be bothered by his loose stools although going to the litter box can't be pleasant - I can hear it in the other room and yes, the smell is truly impressive. Anywhere in the house, I know when that cat has used the box. Sometimes it is more liquid-ish than others but never is it approaching the solid little lumps my other three (non-Bengals) excrete. I've tried a few different feeds and am about to try a couple more, maybe I will hit on something he and the others can eat.

I notice that he is constantly hungry yet he is my string bean. Any thoughts on feeding up a skinny cat while keeping the other (decidedly not-skinny) ones from porking out would be helpful.

thanks,
Charlotte

Hi Char!

I'm new to this forum and have two bengals - Khaan and Hobbes who are both 10 months old. :D We have the same problem especially with Hobbes who is the smaller of the two. His stools are always loose and there is no way possible that I can feed them treats as any change in diet seems to make the problem a lot worse. I agree, it would be nice to find them something which didn't cause these problems though I have read somewhere that Bengals have especially sensitive tummies.

Ps they are both fed HSP dried and wet for kittens.

Thanks

Michelle

I have three 8 month old Bengals and one of them, Dolly, has had persistently runny stools ever since I got them. It doesn't seem to bother her but as Charlotte says, you don't need to look to know she's been in the litter tray! I've started to accept that it may just be the way she is.

I recently switched them onto Nature's Menu wet food and Orijen dry food (they were on Whiskas pouches and HSP kitten biscuits before). It's a bit early to be sure, but I think things may be getting a little more solid so it's probably worth experimenting with different foods - but give them time to settle each time you change foods.

I'd like to get Dolly's sorted out because they're all going out now and will probably start to use the great outdoors as their loo so I won't know if they've got diarrhoea.

Hi one of our Bengals has always had runny poo's too,we have been to the vets loads and loads of times since we have had him in April, but it turned out to br I B D,which he sometimes gets with certain foods,my vet told me beef flavour food can cause it so try and stick to the chicken food, don't know if this is any help, but may be worth a try, we also changed to Nature's menu and my 3 Bengals poo's have improved after trying so many different foods. Its low in acid so its ok.(was told that by the vet)
