From what I understand, the soft stools can come and go, so many owners think that it is just stress, or maybe a food change. Sometimes it does show up as very runny poo that drips, but it can also show up as regular diarreah and even "cow pie" like poo too. I guess the poo REALLY stinks- enough it can drive you from the room. It is really starting to show up more and more in Bengals. Thank goodness it isn't life threatening, but should be treated right away so it doesn't spread to other cats/kittens. If a cat/kitten is having these problems, the best thing to do is to print out the "owners guide" (the link in my previous post) and take it to the vet with you. Many vets are just now learning about this, and some don't know about it at all. Since this is just becoming more and more known about, maybe it can be stopped before it reaches too many catteries. Here in the States, we are hearing about it more each day. I think any new kitten I purchase, it will be kept in its own room for awhile, I will keep an eye on its litter box, make sure no other cats use the same litter box for awhile, and if it has the symptoms, immediately have it tested. Also- have a seperate scoop for each litter box, or disinfect after each use if using one. I know I wouldn't want to have to treat each and every cat in my home.....that could be very expensive (and stinky too). I have heard of breeders who know they have it in their catteries, but don't have it treated, or tell buyers or potential buyers about it. That is a shame since it can be so easily passed around.
(Sorry for the long post.....this stuff scares me though
)
Take care,
