So pleased to hear a wonderful, happy ending to the tale of the tail...all's well that ends well, eh?

definately! as long as it gets stronger she should be as good as new, but to show signs of improvement so quickly is a very good sign. if she carries on getting better at that pace, she may even still be able to go to the show, as long as she feels up to it.

jim, i'll take some pics...i'm well overdue for some up-to-date ones of all of them. i didn't have a camera for ages but i've got one on a phone now so it's better than nothing...just waiting for the data cable to arrive

One of my dogs once had a dislocated tail, ( the other dog jumped into the boot of the car & landed on her tail)
off the the vets we went & after some anti inflamitaries and about 4 days she was as right as rain...

i'm happy to report that sugar can now hold her tail high now & again. it's still weak but i think that will take a while. when she's sleeping, i gently tap the hairs on the very tip of her tail, & she twitches it away which is fantastic!!

she still has a little "knot" on the underside of her tail near the base, which feels like the bone is slightly out of place, but i think the only way to sort that would be to have her anaesthetised & reset it. while it's not giving her problems i don't think it's worth the stress to her. the only problem is that at shows they may class it as a tail fault...but that's a small sacrifice considering she could have had it completely removed!

i'm so relieved...we'll see how she goes at her next show as to wether it means the end of her showing or not.

i completely forgot to update you all on this until a new thread today reminded me of it.

sugar's tail is completely back to normal...no operation needed! the lump underneath felt like bone, but very gradually it went down so must have just been a very solid swelling. it was scary & i think we were extremely lucky this time.

if anyone else has this problem, try anti-inflammetries before anything else (unless it's obviously broken of course!) i'm so glad we didn't go down the route of steroids & aneasthetics for tests...as long as it wasn't hurting her, it was best to stress her as little as possible, & this time round it all worked out well
