jeez poor little lad! i won't go into a rant about not letting them have free access to outdoors, but please consider it. too many get lost to the roads.

thank goodness he was a lucky boy this time! i've never heard of a tongue amputation before so can't help unfortunately. hopefully when it's a little less sore & he gets used to it, maybe he'll learn how to use it.

as for your other one hissing, it is more than likely because he has strange smells on him from the vets. i've experienced this before after ops, they give off a very chemically smell which other cats react to. your friends are right, it shouldn't take long before they are back to normal with each other, maybe a few days.

Sorry to hear about his accident, i believe the general consensus is that cats, especially pedigree cats, should be allowed only limited/supervised access to the great outdoors. One reason is pedigree cats have no road sense, especially the 'newer' breeds.
The second is, they could so easily be stolen - especially a gorgeous chap like yours.
Sadly, i lost one of my Bengals to the road in September, it was utterly heartbreaking, i really wouldn't want you to go through that. He had already been allowed free reign (we bought him at 1yr old) so we just continued with how he'd been brought up.
I would say - Build an enclosure if you have the space, or perhaps train them to walk on a leash? (takes practice, but worth a try)
We've hand built an enclosure which leads from our kitchen window (all the training of staying off the worktops straight out the window, literally! But at least they're safe)
It's about 6-7 ft high, and is l shaped (ish) with enough floor space to put a couple of cat kennels, litter tray, and a decent sized cat tree, plus enclosed space on top of the shed, so they can sun themsleves in the summer.
I've put a piccy on so you can see...we had to build ourselves as it was the best option because we have limited space.

we have a very narrow garden but its apx.. 100 ft long and there are no roads out the back just one out the front and that was another reason i thought they'd be ok. Especially as they are usually just patrolling their territory out there. when i lived in the city we never even thought of owning a cat or a dog as they wouldn't be able to get a enough safe exercise. So once we moved i thought this would be ideal and there is so much out there to keep them occupied naturally. However, I'm definately going to re-evaluate the situation as their safety should come first.

A little update... He's been sleeping all day and he keeps sniffing at his food and occassionally pawing it but no luck as of yet. My wife has tried dishing up all sorts of blended concoctions but no luck.

Here they are together when they were about 6 months i think.
