Oakley is really ill! Oakley stopped eating and drinking on Friday evening and has spent the last 48 hours just lying wherever he is, but huddled up, with his paws tucked beneath him, (he usually lies on his side). He's very lethaergic and although he has finally had some water today, he is weaker than ever and is now staggering when walking, although not falling over at all. He emptied his bladder during what looked like spasms in his stomache while lying in his bed and didn't even attempt to move away from it. The liquid that came out was very orange and smelt strange, like sick. He then went to his litter and passed a pinkish, cream very wet stool (similar to pink liquid fat). When i now pisk him up, he's not even holding his head up and when I put him down, he stays where i put him for a few seconds, as if too weak to move, then gets back into a huddle in the same spot that i put him in. The emergency vet has been called twice and does not seem worried and has told me they'll see him tomorrow at 8.30 when surgery opens. Please help, if you have had a similar experience. I'm worried sick!

I agree with brianj12, Oakley needs to see a vet ASAP, and I would be looking for another emergency vet or insist on seeing your practice emergency vet.

I wouldn't be waiting until the morning either, if Oakley is very dehydrated he will need medical care NOW.

Get him to an emergency vet as soon as possible, that's the only thing I can say. He doesn't sound well at all. I hope he starts to feel better soon.

I've called them twice and they insist that it won't be life threatening, but he's getting so weak. The emergency vet is good, as he's one from the practice and specialises in exotic breeds, particularly Bengals. Oakley has been drinking this afternoon, so i'm not as worried avbout dehydration as I was. He's hiding now, which is what he did when he had an allergic reaction to the Pentofel vaccination. I just hate to see him so ill and sad. I'm staying downstairs with him tonight and will let you all know how he is tomorrow.

I'm really surprised that an emergency vet would make a life and death diagnosis like that over the phone, without seeing the cat. It seems like the liability of that alone would be extremely unwise. Anyway, I think you are making a mistake, but good luck, hope it works out ok.

Oakley just died. He had massive kidney failure caused by IBD. They said he must have been ill for years, but no-one noticed. He was my life and I don't know what I'll do without him. I'm just so, so sad and lost. He won't be there when I get in from work, waiting for his walk, the prawns in the fridge won't be eaten, his bed! His scratch post! How do people do this? I won't be on here anymore, but thank you for all being there. RIP my baby Oakley, not even 8 yrs old, xxx

I feel really horrible for you. All pet owners eventually face that, and it's a terrible state to be in. When my beloved moggies passed away a couple of years ago, I found it somewhat comforting to do things like plant things in remembrance, attending a group funeral service that the crematorium put on for recently deceased pets, and making donations in their names to local pet shelters. But it still hurt very badly for quite some time.
