Just a quick update: my kitten went trough on several tests (blood, stool), however the vet could not identify anything so far. Still waiting for some additional test results...

The breeder offered to look after my kitten for the weekend and he can be reunited with his mummy. The breeder's vet will check him too. I think it is a good idea. At the moment he has diarrhea and doesn't have appetite. Any thoughts?

I wouldn't put him in an environment with other cats in case he is infectious.

Is he on any medication at all? Anti-biotics usually do the trick with any tummy upset in kittens.

I also can't believe breeders feed their kittens raw meat. Would you eat raw chicken knowing the bacteria that can be harboured? Have you asked your vets advice? My rule of thumb is not to feed my cats anything I wouldn't eat myself. The current trend is to go 'back to nature', but you will not find a cat catching, plucking and refridgerating a chicken in nature - of course, they will catch a bird and eat it, feathers, bones, guts and all whilst it is still fresh, but that is not what people are doing for their animals. I must stop now before I start to rant (more).

As has been mentioned, do make sure he's fully hydrated. Dehydration is extremely dangerous to young kittens.

You might want to speak to your vet about Hills AD - I have found this works wonder for my cats when they are a little poorly. Both in stimulating appetite and helping with weight gain.

My vet does not want to treat him with antibiotics until he has not identified the exact problem. However this can't be avoided if my kitten will not start eating more and the diarrhea will not stop.

I hope that the second opinion by the breeder's vet might help. I'm just too worried. His diarrhea needs to be stopped. He is drinking well at least.

Thanks for the advice! i've told my vet to check those diseases. We have got another test result - FIP negative.

I took my kitten back to the breeder yesterday and he was very active after we arrived. He was drinking but not eating. This morning he got some company and now he is enjoying playing with another kitten - following him everywhere and eating(!) with him as well. The breeder's vet will check him today. It seems it is some infection which can be treated by antibiotics... (told by my vet - still waiting for the final results to determine the type of infection).

Could all this be caused by the stress of re-homing? Should I get another kitten to keep him happy? 2 kittens wouldn't be ideal for me at the moment... Will he cope with being on his own with me?

I'm slightly surprised your breeder took him back and mixed him with another kitten without knowing what's wrong - hopefully it's a good sign that he/she doesn't believe it's anything serious.

I don't think 2 are really any more trouble than 1 - less so in fact because they keep each other occupied which means they don't get bored and turn destructive for fun! A lot depends on how much time you can spend with your kitten. I work all day so felt it was better for mine to have company and ended up with three!

The breeder's vet prescribed an antibiotics for my kitten. He is eating now (still only chicken) and the diarrhea seems to be fixed now. My kitten is with another kitten and he follows him everywhere and eats when the other kitten is eating. I'm worried to take him back to me, because he would be alone again and he is still on a course of antibiotics...

Both vets recommend to do another blood test for the liver function. This requires taking one blood sample with an emty stomach and another one after the kitten was eating something fatty. He has low red blood cells.

Shall I take him back to me and he may eventually get used to be on his own?

What are my options if the kitten will not cope with it? Is there any unwritten rule about returning the kitten? I know it sounds like buying a product but i want the best for for the kitten...

On your first post you did state that the cat was well until it had been with you for a couple of days. Usually I would say that the breeder should be taking the cat back if it was unwell when it came to you - but in this case it may well be something the cat has eaten whilst it's been with you (although the liver problem is of course something the breeder should be dealing with).
