Our female Bengal - Hestia is feeling under the weather, she has been looking a bit thin lately and her coat isn't in as good condition as it normally is. Today, she's spent the entire day in her bed, she's come out for a nibble at her food and then gone straight back again - she looks so fed up, not a hint of the normal curious and mischevious self She hasn't been sick and toilet action looks normal (although can't say whether that was her or Zeus).

Any ideas what might be wrong with her? They're due for their yearly checkup at the vets soon anyway, so I might have to bring it forward just to be safe....

When was she last wormed?

She might of eaten something dodgy, not necessarily a bad batch of food....could've been a moth or something like!

Not sure when she was last wormed - a while ago, probably don't do it as regularly as we should...

Eating a moth etc is a possibility since anything that's moving doesn't last long....

Just hope it's not anything more serious.... all cats have lazy days, but never seen her *this* lazy before, she's normally the most active out of the pair of them.

I'd definately worm both her and Zeus as soon as you can, usually you'd see a bit of vomit around somewhere but as you said that you've not wormed them for a while this seems like the most likely cause to me.

Has she been drinking any more than usual?

Make sure she has plenty of fresh water and some light food close by, see how she feels in the morning!

Just taken her down from her bed to the water fountain and she drank a lot, a good 10 mins or so - stopped her in the end as I didn't want her to have too much in case there is something with her kidneys and she can't process it all. Refused to have any food though and walked gingerly back up the stairs to bed

What you didn't carry her back upstairs.....shame on you!

It sounds even more like she needs worming, put a bowl of water near to where she's sleeping before you go to bed, she needs fluids otherwise she might become dehydrated through the night. If she's no better by the morning I would take her to the vets for a check-up....you'll have to go there to pick up the wormers anyways so you might aswell bring Heista along too just to be on the safe side.

Looking a little bit brighter today, came down for some food, a wee and is now having some fresh air in the run....

Vets doesn't open today, so will see how she goes - don't want to emergency call them out unless we have to.

For your piece of mind & for her safety I would take her to the vet & ask for a blood test (most vets have in house labs now), this way they can check her kidney funtion & white blood count - they will be able to at least rule things out such as Kidney failure, Anemia, Worms (a raised level of eosinophil white blood cells would indicate worms)etc. Not the cheapest option I know & it could just be she is affected by the heat but its always best to be sure.

Just been to the vets, apparently Hesty has cellulitis under the skin on her back and a fever to match. Apparently caused by fighting - so Zeus has a lot to answer for

Good news is, she had 2 injections and should start to feel better later today!

Hesty appears to not be well again - same symptoms as last time, lethargic, doesn't want to get out of bed, not interested in food etc....

Could the cellulitis have flared up again or is it a separate occurrence? Anything we can do to stop this happening? Would trimming Zeus's claws help? If they contain the infection and he is piercing the skin with some rough Bengal wrestling....

Going to the vets again today, so hopefully sort her out....

She's not even got out of bed yet today

Been to the vets - not sure exactly what's wrong with her, she had a temperature of 105 degrees and appears to have some discomfort in her back (nearly bit the vet when he touched it ) He's given us Metacam Meloxicam anti inflammatory to help get her pain and temperature down and then Synulox antibiotics to hopefully clear up the infection. If that doesn't work, they may have to give her x-rays to see if she has arthritis in her back (not sure why that would give her a temperature though?).
