Ha ha!! Well…..it was my big boy Ziggi who had the wonderful honour of being awarded Best in Show Foreign Exhibit at the National CC show yesterday.
I can’t tell you what a massive surprise it was for me as I stood there in the crowd watching the cats on stage to see him suddenly appear up there on the podium along with the other section winners.
At the grand age of nine and of the ‘old fashioned’ Bengal type, it’s so nice to know that he can still give the younger stunningly flashy coated Bengals of today a run for their money.
Congratulations to all the other Bengal winners, and yes Ren, there was a truly superb turn out of Bengals.
When he eventually emerges from under my duvet, where he will probably stay for most of the day relaxing after his hard day people watching, I shall take some nice photos of him with his fabulous cup and rosette and update my website tomorrow.
In the mean time here he is yesterday on the stage.

Here is a simple introduction to GCCF showing.

Each cat has its own pen for housing and judges go to each pen and judge them in front of it on a wheeled trolley.

All breeds are categorised i.e. Bengals, Tonkinese, Abys etc are classified as Foreign. Siamese have their own section as do Burmese.

Then each breed is categorised into colour and coat pattern, adult, kitten and adult neuter (if the classes are large, they will split into sex as well).

A judge is chosen to judge specific classes.

All the above cats are first judged in an Open Class. This is the class that gets them their awards.

So, there will be an Open Class for the Adult Brown Spotted Bengal, another for Adult Brown Marbled Bengal, etc. at each show. There are three awards per Open; First, Second and Third. These placings get a different coloured rosette. Only the First placings are eligible to go forward. Then the Male Adult Brown Spotted Bengal placed first will be against the Female Adult Brown Spotted Bengal. One will be awarded Best of Breed and receive another different rosette. The First adult and neuter placings of breeds at Championship status will be awards a Champion Certificate. A cat has to received three of these to become a Champion. Then onwards to Grand Champion, etc.

All owners/members of the public have to leave the show hall in the mornings when judging of the Open Classes starts. All cat pens have certain criteria to follow. They are not allowed to have any distinguishing marks. All they are allowed in/on the pens is their official pen number cards, white show bedding, white litter tray, and white drinking bowl. No food, toys etc are allowed to be left in the pen or anything on top.

After lunch, owners and visitors are allowed back in the hall and the secondary classes are judged. These are called miscellaneous classes and all sections of breeds are judged against each other. So Bengals will be against Tonkinese and Abys etc. These classes are specific. There are ones for cats that have never shown before, have never received a 1st, 2nd or 3rd Open award, age criteria, etc. They have rosettes for placings 1st, 2nd, 3rd but do not count to receiving a Champion Certificate. Again, cats are judged in their pens, owners have to move away from their cat's pen and must not communicate with a judge whilst it is judging.

A group of the judges will have been chosen to choose Best of (Section) and Best Exhibit. This is announced at the end of the day. So their will be a Best Foreign, Best Longhair, Best Siamese and others. These awards can also include Best Adult, Best Kitten, Best Neuter. Then there is the final award Overall Best Exhibit.

He won his third Grand Premier making him a Grand Premier now, next step the Imperial

Hi all and thank you so much for all your lovely comments.
Thank you Sue …Ziggi and I have been scratching our heads as to what ‘scritches’ are, Ziggi thinks it’s something to do with food but I think he’s just trying it on.
Well done to Azraf, getting to that Grand Premier status is a wonderful feeling.
Congratulations also to Mr Oliver, the Snowshoes are such pretty cats.
Ziggi and Misti had the vets this morning for their annual jabs and health check – all perfect I’m glad to say but the thermometer up the bum brought Ziggi right back down to earth!
Thank you all once again and also for the lovely emails I received.
I’m afraid I didn’t take any other photos of the show, the only reason I had my camera with me at the stage was to take photos of my friend Dawns pet pedigree who won the annual Crystal Clear Competition - didn’t think for one minute I’d be needing it for myself.
