hiya, you'll find differing opinions on this but i prefer not to bathe mine for shows.
it depends on the coat texture but i find with mine it can fluff them up & take away that bengal silkiness.
i run a fine-toothed metal comb through to remove loose hairs & then just wipe them all over with a chamois leather (the soft type that you get for washing cars). this way the coat lays flat & it brings out the gorgeous shine
also make sure bottom & ears are clean.
i've never really had a problem with tear stains, just use a cotton wool swab with warm water, but if you have stubborn marks i know a relative who breeds british shorthaurs swears by a product called "diamond eyes" i think.
check with your breeder to see what their usual show prep is, as your cat will have similar coat texture to theirs.

weve tried a foam cleaner, it seems to have helped. were going to bath her in two days and compare the results. then once her coat has settled ill try the shammy leather!

our bengal girl really doesnt like water lol, weve bathed her, after two days her coat shine is back and definatly better effect than the foam.
i also buffed her up with the shammy lol, which shes really likes.
i m just glad shes a short hair , long i think would be awful to do.
