Somerset CC 07/06/08

Had a top day yesterday at the Somerset CC in weston Super Mare
was a very long day!

Bambam was in his 1st Grand class

he got = Reserve Grand CC,BOB and Nom for BOV, 1st,2nd,3rd in sides
all classes where big and it was excellent to go to the other side of the Country and see new /different people!

also stewarded for the 1st time which was excellent!

Stewarding is fun... its nice to see and handle other breeds and to listen to judges comments

WELL DONE BAM BAM! A show I have done for years but as Ziggi has an Imperial from that judge I decided to go to the Fife show in Newbury to try for the third of the five certificates Ziggi needed which I'm pleased to say he managed.
I did miss the Somerset though as it's always a great show and one of my shortest distances to travel but one and a half hours even then!
I would have loved to have seen the first of the Brown Marbles and Snow Spotted now that they have (AT LAST :evil:

) reached Championship status.
I did intend to try my lovely Brown Marble Misti after a three year break, but as Ziggi wasn't going I decided against it. Well done to all those who won the first CC's and PC's of those colours and well done again to Bam Bam!

My OH took our boy Sunny & he got 2 firsts & a third in the side classes.
The naughty little tike wouldn't come out of his pen for the open so he wasn't judged! This was very disappointing as we feel he would have done well - but we are biased :lol:

Any tips to avoid the 'could not handle' status would be greatfully received!

Congratulations to all at the Somerset CC show. It was our first ever show and our little Belle did brilliantly despite snarling and growling at the vet and judges. She got a 3rd in her open and a 2nd in AV kitten living outside Somerset. We're so proud of her :lol:

The show was so well organised and we had a super day out. I think we'll try a few more shows now that we've seen how well organised they are. The judges must have had a tough time with so many beautiful cats on show.

Hi,
On the "could not handle" theme my advice would be choose your judges wisely !! Some of them are very wary of Bengals and the slightest wriggle back in the pen they go.

Your boy can't of been too naughty or upset :roll:

if he was placed in side classes. Sometimes other cats upset them and you can ask the show manager for side extentions for your pen.

Re the CNH scenarios i have to say i did have to get a few out of their pens with that written on the pen number (you wasn't the only one !!) and handling bengals as we do etc there was no problem, i think it all boils down to stigma!

God one of my girls that i cannot show should go then they would would see what a Could Not Handle would be like!

another piece of advice is to do "the show prep" constantly at home
Do the show hold
look at "teethies" opening up the mouth
ears
claws/pads
belly

all being done on a table top! like in the shows or getting someone else to hold while you look over!

Did he hide at all?
did you have 1 or 2 blankets?
i only ever use 1, i think if a cat hides under a blanket all day there is no point in going to show as it is defeating the object,just my opinion!

Hi FG,

no he had one blanket,didn't hide & seemed quite relaxed in the pen, he just didn't want to come out!

We have thought about ways to encourage him to the front of the pen & will have to work on the "show prep" - thanks for the tips

At home home he is ultra friendly - hopefully this was 'first time' nerves & he'll become better at being a 'show off' the more we show him.

Hi FG - yes it is still very much training in progress!

our next show isn't until the end of July so we have a bit longer to work on him! Only time will tell though! :wink:

I tried some catnip spray on some toys just to see what would happen & our girls went wild - I think I may have overdone it ! :lol:
