Do you always wash your bengal before going to a show?
I was just wondering that is it always necessarily to wash, if the coat does not feel oily.
Can judges tell if the coat has not been washed and maybe give lower score because of it?

I have washed my 5 years old show girl twice and her daughter once. I brush them regulary and put a drpop of liquid silk on their fur before judging. But they do have very good coat quality so they are very easy cats to show. Both my girls gets wonderful complimets over their coat every show.

There is a FIFe judge who is kown to be super hard on grooming and show condition. Once, when he was not judging, just showing, I asked him to feel Lara´s coat and tell me when she was washed. He just couldn´t believe when I told the correct answer, wich was 2 years ago...

I do wash them if they look like they need it.

I have to say that kapatrik's cats have the beas coat quality ever! It's unbelievable, especially Lara's coat. Unfortunately Lara's son (my Haltia) hasn't quite inherited it. When Haltia was younger I had to wash him before almost every show, but now I've been trying to avoid it because too much washing makes his coat too dry. It also makes it so that you have to wash the cat more often. The need for washing really varies from cat to cat. If the coat's not oily, I wouldn't wash it.

Hi,
I always bathed Ziggi as my cats are allowed to enjoy the great outdoors, fields and woods. He loved rolling around, especially in dust and gravel so he really needed it!
Zsami however is very different and I never need to bath him, just a quick brush the day before the show and thats about it. He does have a lovely silky coat and very velvety to the touch.
Go with your gut instinct - bath him if you think he needs it but if you do then bath him a couple of days before the show so that the coat has time to settle. If the coat looks in lovely condition then I really wouldn't bother.

I give mine a bath a week before the show, then juts brushing leading up to the show. However if you show very often, less bathing will be necessary, meaning not before every show. :)
